Belief in God/gods the wors stigma of humanity

I was thinking that belief in God/Gods must be one of the worst stigmas of human society. When i look at the history of human civilizaions i can see that belief in God/Gods has held back human civilization more than anything. That is why i respect the chinese so much because they were probably the only civilization not to have belief in a diety/dieties as their main focus of the world. What do you thinkabout this matter. Would humanity be much more better off without belief in dieties. I think so.
