I am reading "Atlantis and the Ten Plagues of Egypt" right now.

The author is named Graham Phillips, an English man, but he is a journalist and not an archaeologist or historian. My studies of Egypt is limited and brief but his theories are interesting and I am not totally opposed to them.

He contends, in his theories, that the ten plagues that the God of the Jews struck Egypt with could have been caused by the Eruption of Thera in the Mediterranean Sea. I do not think this removes God from it but maybe this is demonstration of God using nature for His purpose. Whether you believe in God or not is not the point but COULD THE ERUPTION OF THERA HAVE CREATED THESE DISASTERS???

It is quite possible that especially severe volcanic eruptions caused a shift in the climate temporarily, many authors have considered the explosion of Krakatoa 70,000 years ago to have been a decisive factor in human evolution.

Homo sapiens before this period were not especially distinguished compared to the other humanoids around at that point. We have little art and artifacts from homo sapiens before then. The explosion of Krakatoa is though to have caused sever climatic change which made survival especially difficult for many species, including these early humans. The Economist estimates that in the aftermath during the especially severe period of climate change, homo sapien numbers were reduced to between 2-3,000. Only the very fittest and smartest of homo sapiens survived, the inferior specimens died out in the newly highly competitive environment. Krakatoa is a huge volcano and the eruption at Thera was also massive. Changes in climate would not be a surprising result, with agriculture severely affected and society itself collapsing due to famine.

Good point Constantine. I think it was amazing that the concept of one God without form was even thought of in a culture like Egypt. Did contact with the early Hebrews, prior to Moses, infludence him or was it the other way around.

"There are three essential aspects of Akhenaten's god which sets it apart from all other Egyptian deities:

It is the one and only universal god.

It appears to have no name.

It cannot be represented by a graven image.

The last being a belief that is held by Orthodox Jews and Muslims today and throughout their history." excluding various sect amongst the Jews that have popped up.
