Second attempt to assasinate John Poul II

Recent investigation in Poland proved that during visit of John Poul II in Poland in 1983 was planned his assasination.

Polish general Czeslaw Kiszczak- boss of polish communist secret services on the secret meeting with soviet KGB generals was talking about planned visit of pope in Poland. They agreed that it would be better if such visit didnt take place. Finally Kiszczak said that they must hope that God will take the pope soon to heaven. Soviets agreed with him and said: "who knows". Before the visit, polish communist goverment warned polish special forces and secret police that probably in Poznan will take place the assasination attempt. In Poznan pope was going to make mass at place dedicated to anti communist insurgents from year 1956 when the whole city rebelled and in result of few days  long fights many were killed. Citisens of my city (im from Poznan too) were waiting for pope and hoped that he will condemn communists and pay tribute to murdered insurgents. Atmosphere between people was already hot. 

Special group of secret police was formed to prevent assasination and action recived codename "ZORZA" (eng. AURORA). Polish communists didnt want to stop the assasination because they loved pope or were catholics, really they hated him and were atheists. They wanted to see him dead even more than others. The pope's visit was strenghtening delegalised SOLIDARITY wich had 10 times more members than communist party and even more supporters. The real reason was that goverment was afraid that if the pope will be murdered in Poland the whole country which already was on the edge of rebellion will raise against them, including big part of the army and that in result Poland will be invaded by the forces of Warsaw Pact. The memory about year 1956 was still fresh and even if it was only Poznan that revolted, it would take a lot of effort to get back control over 600.000 large population of city. Communists also remembered that in 1956 part of the soldiers sided with insurgents against them.

Polish secret services unofficially were informed that behind planned assasination is staying american CIA but really there was noone who belived it and it was clear for the all who took part in operation "AURORA" that it is soviet KGB or east German Stasi. So polish communist secret police had to counter the action of "friendly" communist secret service from the neighbouring country.

The attempt probablly took place (altough it is not sure, all evidences were destroyed - polish communists removed everything for their own safety as they were afraid of revange from the same secret services which tried to assasinate the pope), in the last moment secret officers removed from Poznan's cathedral a box of human size, just few minutes before pope entered inside. And to the altar pope was leaded by the different way than it was first planned.

I must admit that the whole thing is unclear. There are few secret documents left and some ex agents who took part in operation AURORA speak while others say nothing, dont even want to comment it. Majority of them dont even want to admit that were part of that operation.
