Those latin american nations, actually were more authoritarian, as comparing to those democratic nations of the Anglo North America( USA and Canada), was it because those latin american nations had inherited the political tradition of Aztecs and Inca, which were also the authoritarian empires?
But at the same time, the Native american tribes at the north america(excluding Mexico) ,were more liberal and democratic , at the aspect of their political system, such as the tribual meeting, the federation(Iroquois), the election of the chief(Dakota),all influenced the Anglo immigrants, Canada and Usa, somehow, inherited such traditions.

of coure, John Quincy Adams stated that it was the tradition of military dictatorship of spain and portugal that provided the authoritarian tradition to those latin american countries, that was true too , in 20 century, military dictators appeared at spain and portugal( Franco, and salazar)

Then , what was (were) the root(s) of the authoritarian tradition of the Latin America?

The Catholic church mandated the rule of Papal power sharing with the King.

The King exercised 'divine authority' - under the 'godly' auspices of the Pope.
They split the profits/taxes/fines, & generally kept the people obedient/suppressed.

King Henry VIII of England resented the Pope's cut & went Protestant, setting up his own church.

AFAIR, the Aztecs were impressed by the brutish similarities of aspects between the Spanish & themselves in this kind of gov't organisation.

It is IMO, laughable to contend that the 'enlightenment' thinkers who helped frame the US Constitution
were positively  influenced in this by the perceived depravity of 'heathen' native tribes..

Although those founding fathers also specifically rejected the notion of an 'establishment' church with a direct role in state affairs.

I suggest a viewing of the movie 'Black Robe' for an example of the culture clash in North America.
