Topic: The London Jaguars of the NFL!! Posted: 01-Jul-2014 at 10:43 |
You read it right. This year the NFL will play four games in London. The Jacksonville Jaguars will be the designated "Home Team". If everything goes as planned, the Jags will be moving to London in 2 years as a permanent London NFL franchise.
I believe I predicted this about 3 years ago, and everyone thought I was nuts. Follow the money friends, follow the money.

Jaguars not a very British name? the car makers will be happy I suppose
Lions? Bulldogs? Spitfires? Redcoats? would seem better
New England Patriots v London Redcoats!
I'd go with the Spitfires actually.

The franchise will move to London, they don't have to keep the name. Actually, the city of Jacksonville can prevent them from using "Jaguars" in London.
Personally, I'd like to see a name that is appropriate for the UK. Suggestion-The London Blitz.

The 'London Blitz'??? I realise that Blitz has a different meaning in the USA but 'us being bombed'? London Spitfires sounds good plus a fly past at every game!

Sorry, I should have clarified that it might be like that, short, and reflecting strength, coming just short of a testosterone overload. The fly-by thing sounds cool. Are there enough Spits in flying shape to actually do that? I was standing less than 200 ft under 4 Thunderbolts, "P-47's", taking off from an airshow, the sound is like nothing else. I can imagine what the effect 6-8 Spitfires would be.

I recall the prediction though I don't recall any comment I might have made. No doubt a transient Demerol hallucination if it was flippant.
On the other hand I'm pleased to see it. London has been a great response for the NFL.
Since 'Lions' is unavailable and there are no tigers on HM Coat of Arms. Then the lions alternate identification; of 'golden leopards', should be used.
