Smart uniforms. The jacket of the Republican Blues is very similar to that of NY troops, apart from the white piping

in addition, each Company also had thier own button, the Blues had one for fatigue and one for dress.

The flag of the DeKalb Rifles is in the Ga State Flag Collection. I have yet to find out exactly what the uniform looked like, but if the dress uniform of the Oglethorpe Light Infantry and the Republican Blues are any guide, they were probably blue with a colored plastron, and fringed epaullets.  I am gonna try one day to get to the Savannah Historical Society and see what I can find..

Thanks Republican Blues.Smile Do you know anything more about the DeKalb Riflemen? I'd love to see a photo of an original uniform

It wasnt a regiment, but a company of the 1st Georgia Regiment (Olmsteads) The DeKalb Rifles or DeKalb Riflemen, comprised of German and German-Jewish residents of Savannah, GA were listed as going to war in 1861 in "Prussian style helmets". They apparently didnt last very long, as the DeKalb Rifles (Co B 1st Georgia) was reallocated as Co B, 1st Battalion,  Georgia Sharpshooters in 1862.

The Republican Blues march Cover sheet shows two of the members wearing the dress uniform as it would have appeared during their tour of New York City in July of 1860.  The fatigue uniform consisted of blue kepis with a single line of silver soutache around the top of the band and the brass letters RB, a blue shell jacket of the NY state pattern trimmed with white piping, and blue trousers with a broad white stripe in winter and white cotton trousers in summer. Accoutrements consisted of m1839 cartridge boxes with GA state box plate, no plate on the box belt, and Ga state seal plates (oval for privates, rectangular for NCOs) Arms were M1855 US rifle muskets.

In December of 1861 the Blue fatigue uniform was replaced with frock coats of charcoal gray english kersey, and gray trousers. The blue kepis were  retained untill very late in the war, when they were transferred from the Savannah defenses (they had served at ft Pulaski, St. Catherine's Island, Fort James Jackson, and Ft McAllister) for service in the Army of Tennessee during the Atlanta Campaign.

The green uniform of the 5th was only worn by one company, Company A, The Clinch Rifles.

Raggedasssecond, are you a re-enactor? From the quote in your signature, my guess is you portray Iron Brigade

Those zouave uniforms look smart but weren't very practical on campaign. The gaudy colors made the wearer an easy target and, while practical in desert environments like Algeria, weren't much use in the wet, muddy conditions of the War in the East

Then there was the "Fightin' 14th" regiment of Brooklyn, aka the Red-Legged Devils.
