Topic: What the hell is wrong with my finger? Posted: 28-Apr-2009 at 05:10 |
I am aware that seeking medical advice from people online is not exactly the smartest thing to do but bear with me, not exactly keen on sitting in a walk in for hours on end to find out that not going to the doctor wouldn't have changed anything anyway.
I was at wrestling practice and i was training with one of my teammates. I ended up thrusting my hand out to do a arm drag(grabbing the opponents elbow opposite to the arm your grabbing with) when it happened. My hand clipped his sternum/chest with my pinkey exclusively bending back straight by its self. I was stunned for a second but after the initial seconds of heavy pain it subsided into this dull pain that would only get worse if i put strain on the finger in a certain way. It was at wrestling so i was already all warmed up and in the mood of things so i just continued until the end of practice with no real problems besides a sore and stiff finger. Keeping in mind there was no swelling what's so ever.
A month from now its still bothering me, but i don't realy understand because if it was just a jammed finger it should have healed by now. I can do chin ups with my hands with it, at the most its this dull pain that i don't realy care about because i don't want it interupting my training. I can close my fist with relative ease with the most minimal stiffness in the finger. I can lug around weights with little grip strength lost because of the weakness of the finger. But now is how the pain flares up in the oddest ways. I think the problem lies with my pinkey knuckle not the finger. I tried moving the pinkey side to side and i can't make my pinkey touch my finger next to it horizontally it just stiffens up and has this very small tinge of pain.
Anything that compresses my hand makes it shoot up in pain. I tried putting on a boxing glove and it was painful. Punching is certainly out of the question but the strange thing is that it doesnt hurt when the actual knuckle makes contact but when the lower half of the finger takes impact.
Anyone have any ideas as to what it may be? Its not dislocated or broken for sure, my best guess is that there is a hairline fracture or somthing but there is no swelling at all so that kind of rules that out. Another answer i heard was that its just a deep bruise.
So yeah deffinetly do not want to spend hours at the clinic just to hear that i am supposed to give it more time to heal.

Hmmmm..... you miite had pulled a muscle. I bruised me toe a few months ago, and it is still back as niite. Just get and xray of it and find out. You miite had fractured it as it sounds like. Trust me, I fractured bones before and they need to be broken to be properly healed and they hurt like hell.

Forget a doctor, go to a (sports) physiotherapist. Those guys a wizards if you have a muscle/joint injury like this one.
Muscle/joints, nagging injury/injury recovery -> physio Long term illness, allergies, behaviour -> Naturopath Short term illness, immediate injury -> Doctor

Wait, where you from Husaria? If from the USA, do you have to pay for an x-ray? In Canada, we get it for free.

Physio's don't cost any more than a doctor here (Australia) but they are covered by our evil socialist healthcare scheme designed to make healthcare affordable to ordinary people
Where are you Husaria?

The health card covers an x-ray I believe. Get your finger x-rayed. Physio wont help if you have a fracture.

A fracture means it is broken. Husaria, get off your rear and head to your Doctor, either that or tough it out and wait for your bones/tendons to heal. X-ray is a good idea. You just may have a broken pinky. If you did you would need to immobilize it and that too takes time too. Either way talking about it won't make it go away.

A fractured finger is a messy business. They are the worst to get broken, very hard to heal.

I always thought broken implied a clean break at a joint etc while fracture is one of those messy sliver breaks. But your right, scew the doctor ill just wait till it heals it doesn't bother me enough to warrent waiting for hours.
