Hello All:

This is my first post on the forum; I just registered today. My first question pertains to the current whereabouts of the 'Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid. I know that he died in Iran, and is buried there, but as for the specific place, I don't know that. Can anyone help me with locating his place of burial?

Thanks very much....

It is believed Harunieh in the city Tus was originally the mausoleum of Harun al-Rashid, of course Tus was entirely destroyed by Genghis Khan's Mongol conquest during 1220-1259: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tus,_Iran we know this building existed before Safavid in the 15th century, so some people say it was probably built by Tatars in the 14th or 15th century, anyway it is known as the tomb of Harun.

I visted this mysterious building some years ago, my some photos:

Islamic architecture is impressive. The buildings might look utilitarian on the outside, but inside they are spacious and beautifully decorated

No, Mashhad, as the second largest city of Iran, is a city near Tus, about 20 km south of this ancient city, the original name of Mashhad was Sinbad (Sina+abad, built by Sina/Saena = Simurgh: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simurgh), Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of Shia Muslims, died in Sinbad and afterwards the name of this city was changed to Mashhad (the place of martyrdom).
