Topic: The Civil War Game Posted: 28-Jan-2005 at 08:37 |
It's the weekend....
For those of us sad people who are stuck at home.... Here's a game..
The rules are simple.....Just name as many former British colonies as possible that didn't have a civil war after they got independence.
2 points for a correct answer, if you are the first person to mention the country.
1 point for a correct answer if someone already mentioned this country before.
- 2 points for an incorrect answer.
1 point for an "it's debatable whether this counts or not" answer.
Good luck

Not so good
Somebody could come along give only 10 answers, get them all wrong and take a commanding lead.

Well for Canada -2,
USA -2
That Ex British Island now part of Columbia?
Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man -6
Still nobody in positive figures.
To answer your question, I haven't worked out the exact maximum number of countries, but it's not many. This quiz is based upon disproving the famous urban legend that every single former British colony had a civil war after independence.

France was an English 'colony?' not British and Ireland had a civil war after Irish independence. In fact Britain had a civil war after Irish independence. (Then again I think Irish independence was a British civil war in itself)

How about Heligoland, in the North Sea off the German coast, British occupied from 1807-1890, when the Brits swopped it with the Germans for Zanzibar.
Must admit, didn't have much of a population to start a civil war, three old fishermen with, a few mangy sea-gulls and a Dachshund, named Colin(!). But still......
