Any body has heard of Shivaji Maharaj..he was a great king in the state of Maharashtra, India. While the Moghuls were conquering almost every part of India and spreading Islam everywhere like other former Moghul emperors did it was Shivaji Maharaj who successfully eshtablished Swaraj( self rule) in the state of Maharashtra(Mah) and rejuvenated the dormant warriors of this great state. A Salute to this great king .. I think it would be wrong to call him a king although he ruled Mah ..he was people's leader and not only every Maharashtrian but also every Indian loves this great man. I feel that everyone must read about him atleast once in lifetime and if possible also visit Raigad( its a fort that used to be the capital of Shivaji's Empire)..its a great fort!!

good topic, though I think that he has been discussed before. By the way, this belongs in the South Asia forum.

Mahaji is a title of Shiva in Thailand. Mahhji is the strong god of Bundjalung people in east Australia. Mahagouri is Shiva's wife, mountain-born spirit of light. Gurree is the shining white spirit goddess of east Australia.  Do you know of "Mahaji" in other places than Thailand?

huh?
You going to have to elaborate a bit. Shivaji Maharaj is not a god, he was the first leader of the rebellion against the Mughal Empire that later became the Mahartha Empire

Its just the use of words that caught my attention. I would like to confirm that the 2 words Maha, ji are correctly joined to become "Mahaji" Shiva, as written in a guide-book about Thailand.  In Bundjalung legend, 3 men arrived by ship, named Mamoon (Skt. Hindi :"maternal uncle"), Ya Birrein and Birrung. [www. three brothers bundjalung]. They came from Ngareenbeil, and Malay "negara" means "national", and Negara was the ceremonial state-system in Bali. Bundjalung "ngara" means "ceremony".
A mountain stream is named "Dahndahra" and Skt. "dhan dahra" is "swift stream". The stream is at the sacred site Gambadjha, which may be "Kamboja/ Cambodia", as the Brahmin rulers fled from Thai invasion and sailed to Java Bali, where Danu (dhan) has a temple..... long story..

Yogeash has just mentioned "Shivaji Maharaj" reverentially, in historical context, he could have mentioned as Chatrapathi Shivaji. However, the details given are enough to understand that he refers to Shivaji, the King who fought with Moghuls and not "Shiva"ji, the God, one of Trinity.

Such names are common in other parts of the world, particularly, in SEA, where the people happened to be followers Hindu religion.
