There's evidence that Neanderthals had religion so it's possible earlier hominids like Home-Erectius had it too, they were certainly sophisticated enough.
It's also possible animals have religion. That is recent analysis into what religion is has suggested religion is a hangover from the survival instinct any animal that is targetted by predators evolves. A deer for example spends its whole life wary of predators, able to be spooked at any moment, fearing the unkonwn that lies beyond the rushes.
Human religious behavior shows remarkable similarities to this form of behavior and may just be and evolutionary adaption of this instict. The idea something beyond is watching, fear of the unkown.

Well, animism was the first religion, and it still has some followers in Africa. However, the oldest major religion is Hinduism.

In religion there is a resignation towards the all-sensory observer. Animals aim to flee the observer, humans dont. They even try to get close to their observer.

There is a reason why the pious are often referred to as "God fearing".

yes and god has this duality along with the merciful, with animals this does not matter. animals do not remotely try to love that which they fear.

Judaism would be the oldest organised religion per se. I won't give the term to hinduism because Hinduism is not an organised religions per se, but more of a way of life. You name any philosophy in the world & you will find mentioned in Hinduism. It is just an evolution of the beliefs of the people from the South Asian region from pure animalistic & pagan to the most complicated & structured religious philosophy & theology to be found in the world. And all forms continue to exist side by side.
Thus we have a religion where the God's are not supreme, but Aryavrat is, where athiesm exists as a form of religious sect, where extreme materialism & extreme pacifism exist simultaneously in differing beliefs.
THis is a religion where Gods continue to be invented & challenged, where the athiests very often win against the Gods themselves.
So it is not possible to equate Hinduism with another religion. Judaism may certainly classify as the oldest religion. However if faith & belief are to be counted as a religion then hinduism is as old as the human knowledge itself.

I thought that the oldest would be the worship of the sun and moon.
Very interesting points though...

As I had said everything can be found in Hinduism. The sun & the Moon were worshipped in India thousands of years ago & are still worshipped.

You don't need to prove that because zorastrianism was an offshoot of hinduism.

...Then Zoroastrianism can trace its roots back to the foundation of Hinduism (Which I think dates back to Sumerian times) which means that it is infact one of the oldest religions in the world

The oldest religion in the world is Islam. It is the only religion revealed to mankind and therefore all other religions have there true origins in Islam.

That's ridiculous- Islam was founded around 600AD and is an abrahamic religion and thus has roots in Judaism and Christianity. It is one of the three abrahamic religions. I don't quite know what you mean "only true religion revealed to mankind".
...And no Vivek- I'm not Zoroastrian, I'm agnostic
