I read in newspaper that a small community in Iran has celebrated it but shouldn't people attach more importance to it?

Oh, I noticed that we don't celebrate almost anything about the Seljuks in Turkey (except the Battle of Manzikert thingy)

Never knew that the Turkish celebrated Manzikert

Also I always thought that the Seljuks were older than 1000 years

Although the Oghuz Turks has a nation since 9th century, The Seljuks gained their Independence in 1040 from the Ghaznavids, after the war of Dandanakan and rose as an independent nation.
