A new Total War game will be released towards the end of this year. It's a complete remake of Medieval: Total War. I'm very excited about this one... This is what MTW should have been in the first place!

Cool, this total war series is about the biggest motivation i have to update my computer's capabilities. I hope it is markedly different from Rome, I don't want to fork out alot of cash for some minor tweaking when i can just download a mod.

" huge campaign spanning from the years 1080-1530, that will take the player beyond the first Crusade up until the dawn of the renaissance. An extended campaign map will allow passage to South and Central America bringing the player into battle with the Aztecs."

whats that? its called medieval dammit, why you don't include more of Asia instead, how can aztec warfare, architecture etc be seriously implemented in such a setting at all? but of course they'll do an add-on for this as well so they start in 1080 again instead of including the 11th century to the main camapign....

at least they got the assassination videos back, but i won't get this game anyways probably...

Temujin,

They might have done this for the sake of an Ottoman mini-campaign.

Factions included: England, France, Scotland, Holy Roman Empire, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Milan, Venice, Papal States, Sicily, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Byzantium, The Turks, Egypt, The Moors, The Mongols, The Timurids, The Aztecs

It looks great but so did RTW and what a total mess that turned out to be, it comes out the end of this year which means it wont be playable for about 6 months until somebody creates a decent mod or until they bother releasing a good patch. I wish I could get excited but RTW truly sucked despite looking great, so its hard to get excited over MTW2.

Yes, Hercalius, I agree. Rome: Total War had the Egyptians having chariots and had the Seleucid Empire being nothing. The Rome Total Realism Community might get on this case.

I can't wait to see what the mod community does with this.  The potential is certainly there.  Although I am surprised they extended the end date to 1530 instead of an earlier starting date.  Still it gives me something to look forward to...any game that has the byzantines in it can't be all bad.  I hope to god they improve the "naval battles".

MTW2 is planing to be ready in December 2006. So you will have to wait at least 1,5 or 2 years for any serious mod for MTW2

completly true. i don't expect much from MTW2. Game sounds arcadic to me. Although I like time period. My mod 's development is moving. It will be very interesting to see how campaign map will look like, cuz they expand to Aztecs. I will probably make a new map for MTW2 when it comes out, cuz i dont expect much from CA when speaking about historical accuracy.

I think they extended the campaign map to America to appeal to more American gamers.  Personally, I concur with Temujin and prefer that they expand the campaign map further down the Sahara (Ghana, Mali), and east of Persia (Ghruid, Sultanate of Delhi, Song, Ming, etc)

Expanding the campaign map to Central and South America makes very little sense, given the incompatibility of the Azetc military with European counterparts.

I hope that they take away the Portugese faction and make a Bohemian or Keivan Rus faction instead.

Darn!

I really hoped that it was a bunch of sh*tty rumors about that they would make a remake of Medieval TW as their next game.

Why a remake on Medieval? I think Shogun would have been more apropiate, the game is older.

I would have hoped that they would make some kind of Far East: Total war (like the Gempei Wars, Warring states etc. or something like that).

Medieval Total War 2 = Boring.

Medieval war games have been done thousand times before. "Creative" Assembley my ass

Develop your faction as a feudal aristocracy using you castles to keep the peasants in check whilst conquering your enemies with your powerful armies. Or build cities to develop a wealthy urban society, and battle your foes with diplomacy, bribery, assassination and armies of mercenaries.

A dual line of development. Well, this sounds very interesting.

Unfortunately, MTW2's campaign map will cover the exact same area covered by RTW's...

On the plus side, it has been announced that there might be 30 factions, instead of 21.

We have been looking at this recently and I should have an answer in the coming weeks. We are looking to increase the hard-coded limitations to atleast 30 if it doesn't cause too much problem with the game.

I've somewhat convinced myself that frills and noveltys will take priority over gameplay and balancing yet again, i'd of given up night battles, hordes and rebellions in BI for a game which gripped me like MTW did.

MTW didnt need state of the art graphics and stunning attention to detail to keep me addicted for years on end, RTW had the potential to be incredible, possibly even the greatest game for many a year, but failed quite spectacularly. I see little reason why MTW2 for all its cool screenshots will be much different. Lets remember here that the pics we see are almost always of extreme circumstances the player will never actually experience in-game.

I mean how often do you have enormous night-battles filled with drama and excitement like the intro to BI displays? i've yet to have even 1 night battle, nevermind like what it shows in the intro.

Remember the intro to RTW? how cool did it look when you saw hundreds of legionary cavalry charge out of the woods into thousands of Gallic infantry? i'd be amazed if anybody had had a battle even half as dramatic as that, nevermind had a PC able to play it.

Yeah yeah im being pessimistic but I expect something good for my £39,95, i'm pretty pissed off at being so badly letdown by RTW and BI.

I seriously hope i'm wrong, it is very early for me to level such scathing criticism on a game that is far from being out, but the 2 previous installments have left me with little confidence.

yeah, i would be surprised if this game sells even above average, even fans of RTW mostly feel dissapointed about the graphics-rulez/zero-innvoations policy of MTW2.

Wow, with at least another 9 factions, they should be able to fit in the Bohemians and Russians. I am pessimistic, as Heraclius is, on the Total War series because the original game is never that good. It is filled with historical bullcrap and some very stupid things. They play up the intro and screenshots to a hilt, yet the actual game is nowhere close to as good as it is played up to be.

Dont expect anything very realistic in this game. From one interview i heard that MTW2 will have Elephants with cannons!!!!!

I heard about that from Rise of Nations for the Indian faction. I heard one mod for Rome Total War had elephant chariots.

Alot of things they need to sort out to make a decent SP mode to be honest, if the same problems persist that plague RTW then trying to get together a MP campaign is pointless and much needed time taken away from making the SP game actually playable.

One of the biggest letdowns with RTW and MTW was the fact that you could only have multiplayer battles, and not a full multiplayer campaign. Such a thing would require alot of work, but would provide endless hours of fun. Only problem with it would be that you need to set aside heaps of hours to ensure that everyone got a turn. Perhaps there would be a way around that though. The diplomacy in such a game would be sweet.

Perhaps multi player games on mini campaign maps?  I'd wager a mp game wouldn't be so cumbersome if there were only maps of say 4 players 16 provinces or at most 8 players with 32-40 provinces

Date Posted: 08-Feb-2006 at 09:48

Acctually they can create easily multi player campaign but the Creative assebmely totally rejected the idea on Rome total war,

I would love if it where possible to play campaing in MTW2 , it would be  great fun and a challange

According to them I would take a awful of time until it was your turn again, You have to sit and wait for the other players to make their moves,

But thats not really an issue for them right , isnt it up to the player to decide if he/she wants to play or not, I mean if you find it boring then don't play campaing mode or the opposite,

Its not the same thing , you can't compare Total war series with Europa Universalis,  Its isn't build in the same way,

I think Rom Total war has better graphics and is much  more realistic then Europa Universalis,

Can you inform me more about Hearts of Iron,
