During World War II, the practice of customizing aircraft with drawings
and pin ups reached the maximum creativity. I share with you some of the
most curious nose arts created by the crews of B-25 Mitchell bombers.

It wasn't confined to planes. My father had "Mammy Yokem" with her sleeve rolled up and making a fist, painted on his gun tub on LST 758.

That's a ongoing fine tradition.....while not authorized....you will find crews from mortars to tanks to Apache drivers doing something similar. Navy does it on board their ships and aircraft. Have for a long time.
In the Cav, we flew miniature Troop and platoon guidons from antenna whips.
Seen green chalk images on tanks,IFVs and Humvees etc.
It's esprit de corp.... from the days when hordes of Germanic barbarians carried totems and Romans marched with Eagle standards to this day.
I take comfort in at least that tradition still being here.
