Charles II was king of Spain from 1665 to 1700.
Despite two marriages, he did not have any children.
He therefore bequeathed his kingdom to Philip of Anjou, the younger grandson of Louis XIV of France.
The War of the Spanish Succession concluded in 1714.
Suppose Charles II did not name Philip of Anjou as his heir.
Who is the new heir to the throne of Spain?

Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I promoted his younger son, Archduke Charles as the candidate for the Spanish succession.
Leopold I was a grandson of King Philip III.

Victor Amadeus II of Sardinia was in line to succeed on the account of the dowry of his great-grandmother, Infanta Catherine Michelle of Spain not being paid on her marriage in 1582 to Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy.
That marriage based Victor Amadeus II's claim to the Spanish throne.

The heir presumptive to Charles II at the moment of his accession was his oldest sister, Margaret Theresa. Upon her demise in 1673, her daughter, Maria Antonia, became heiress presumptive to the Spanish throne according to the will of King Philip IV. She died in 1692. Her son, Joseph Ferdinand, Duke of Bavaria, became heir presumptive. He was created Prince of Asturias.
