People living in Mary (Merv) Turkmenistan and Samarkand/Bukhara used to speak a form of Farsi (Tajiki/Dari).  Those people no longer exist thanks to Genghis Khan.  The Parthians (ancestors of Alans and Pashtuns, relatives of Persians) used to live there along with Sogdians.  The Arshakun (Arsacid) Dynasty originated from those lands and peoples.  Today is inhabited by nomadic Turkmens who wear sheepskin on their head and occasionally have Chinese/Oriental features.  The blonde/blue eye Arshakun types either migrated, killed off or absorbed by the Turanian invaders.
