Hmmm... yea, I dont know much about english history, all I know is that the Stuarts were the scottish royal house and by the time of Henry VIII they had a pretty strong claim to the english throne, in as much that they kept getting assassinated by the Tudors. Im curious as to which particular marriage gave them their claim to the english throne.

Started with Robert II the Bruce, the first monarch of Scotland. Their claim was to the English crown was based on that James V married Margared Tudor; hence their son, James V, had claims on the English crown. Mary Stuart and Lord darnley, being cousins, shared margaret Tudor as a grandmother, and had serious claims on the crown which led to Mary being eventually executed. Their son, James VI of Scots and I of England and Ireland.

James IV married Margaret Tudor, Henry VIII's sister. Henry's line ended with Elizabeth, so the next in line was his sisters line. The Stuart's claim was simply they were the legitimate heirs, nothing else.

Henry VIII named the heirs of his sister Mary in his will after his own children, rather than his sister Margaret's heirs.
