I'm inclined to say vBulletin 3 - the best forum software available.

Unfortunately, you have to purchase its software on a per license basis.

I'll second that. vBulletin 3 is indeed very good and very well protected against hacking attempts too, I believe. Has tons of user features to go with it as well.

I think I do know people who use it for "free".

I use it for free. I don't own a licence yet.

Surely the tightest coding of all the forum types, but to be honest, I don't like it.  There are so many other forum systems that aren't as complicated to use.

My personal favorite is phpbb.  Clean and simple.

I find that once I get into the Admin section of vBulletin I'm simply overwhelmed by the amount of options which is no bad thing. Currently, with my site being phpBB, I'm a little disappointed at the Admin section but it is, afterall, a free piece of software.

Must be your Cookie settings as I've not had any problems.

Hmmm, check your cookies.  I'm never logged out.  My problem is still with those damn new post indicators.  They don't work right.  Also, some common features that are on most boards are missing here.

The phpbb panel is very adequate, and really serves most any need you may have(provided that you know what you are doing).  Vbulletin seems to be one of these feature-heavy boards, that has things not really necessary in a forum.

I don't know, I looked, and I really like the stuff VBulletin has!  The only thing I don't like is the pricetag for a license.  Were I ever to start my own board, I think I'd go with them.

Personally, my problem is that there is no "own posts" section or something like that, where we could see the threads we're subscribed to (as in vBulletin's Control Panel). It really is very helpful, I completely forget which topics I had been watching and if there had been a reply or not. And since there is no e-mail notification either, one has to go through a lot of threads to figure out where those posts are. Especially if you're old and senile like me.

And when you look for posts by someone it lists them by the last time anyone posted in them, not the last time the person in question did.  I also like emails when I get PMs.

I like EzBoard.  I co-own two sites with a friend.  They're a very large group of boards, easy to manage and use, and have a great "forum find" feature that allows members of one board to search for other boards on any topic.  The price is reasonable and they make it simple for members to contribute to the cost.

Well I know how to do it, I just thought it would have been much more easier the other way. I'm really used to vbulletin style, I think it's very practical.

Thanks anyway.
