I also love Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Thai Cuisine, but I am not an expert in those fields. It will be better if our members share their food knowledge with us, so we know something new and may try them in nearby restaurants.

Koobide is delicous actually love a lot of Persian food. Turkish/Bosnian/Balkan food. Tried Japanese, Filipinno, Indian, Pakistani, Arabic variants of Med. food. Mexican. For one live in Chicago and surrounded with different ethnic backgrounds, two have friends that I grew up with that are of a lot of backgrounds, too.

The Turkish and Bosnian places in Chicago are pretty good.

Restaurant Sarajevo for one is good for a lot of grilled varieties of Bosnian varaints of Med. food.

Arkadas and Ala Turka are two good Turkish places.

Andie's is a good general Mediterannean place.

And Reza's is one of the best Persian places here.

Baklava, Dolma and Churba are familiar names. We have the same foods in Iran. Cevapi looks delicious, I am going to try it. I can not see some of the Photos that you have posted specially about Baklava, Kajmak, Dolma and tulumbe.

Tulumbe sounds funny, because it means Pump in Persian.

Okonomiyaki is a delicious Japanese food. Some consider it as Japanese pancake. The best okonomiyaki is the Hiroshima style.

Here is a video about a Japanese restaurant. You can see how they make Okonomiyaki.

There are two variants one is mild and one is a bit hotter. It is made of peppers and a whole bunch of other ingredients. The best ones are the home made ones, but those are naturally hard to find - although the whole sale ones are great, too. Vitaminka co. makes some good Ajvar. It tastes really good with grilled varieties. Especially with Cevapi, Shish Cevapi, Kebabs, etc...

Spanish cooking is delicious!

Tortilla Española (Tortilla de patatas)

Made with chopped potatoes, eggs and salt, with the option of adding veggies and ham. It's a national treasure of Spain, and delicious.

Cocido

Cocido is a meal typical of Madrid - which involves tossing everything in the kitchen into a pot and letting it simmer - or at least that's how they describe it Wink

Jamón Serrano/Ibérico

This is a delicious wild cured ham that is regulated by the Spanish government. This is the ham that the Queen of England covets. The best of this ham is from Gijuela, where the pigs are free range and dine mainly on figs. Legs of the jamón ibérico can cost upwards of 200 Euros.

Paella

Paella is a dish typical of Valencia that has spread throughout the Spain, with each region adding it's own local ingredients and flare. Typical Paella is rice, saffron, veggies, and some form of protein, be it seafood, rabbit or chicken.

Yum yum yum!

Cocido is very similar to Dizi (Abgousht) a traditional Iranian meal. Iranians smash and mix the ingredients then serve it with bread +Yogurt+ onion and fresh vegetables.

Looking at this food makes me want to head home and eat! Missed lunch again!!

My cooking is always a little of this and a little of that but for some reason it comes out good or at least 99% of the time.

One exception was when cooked for an old girlfriend and her five year old daughter said to me, " this soup is yucky!!

Things usually work out and the next time I made some of my Mexican chilly and she loved it.

I usually cook either Mexican, Italian or my own version of Mediterranean- olive oil and feta cheese. I sometimes cook off the wall things like my grilled cheese sandwich with chedder, feta, chicken, egg cooked well over easy, fish sticks sandwich with a topping of virgin olive oil. Quite a combo which falls apart easy- eat with care.

My roommates in Istanbul loved my Mexican chilly with Turkish ingrediants-

I can never follow recipies although I would love to eat some of the food displayed here.

Here in Canada we have poutine. I'm not going to post pictures because most dishes look disgusting in pictures, and none moreso than poutine, which resembles somebody's lunch thrown up. So I'll just describe it. Poutine is a sloppy, gooey dish consisting of big, thick-cut deep-fried French fries with hot gravy and melted cheese curds. If you're in the mood for fast food, it's really really good.

It's also really really bad for you. A serving of (real) poutine has so much cholesterol and whatnot it makes McDonald's look like a health food store. Some people compete with each other for who can make the biggest 'cholesterol bomb' by adding beef, bacon, sausage, smoked meat, and eggs.

Fast food chains up here do sell what they call 'poutine' but its not real poutine. It's just those measley little shoestring fries that they usually sell but 'poutinized' ie they add a meager little bit of thin gravy and a drop of melted cheeselike stuff. If you want the real poutine your best bet is to go to Montreal, and go to either one of the poutine vendors' roadside trucks or one of the more famous Montreal delis like Schwartz's Hebrew Delicatessen.

No eggs that is cheese, mostly cheddar cheese with sour cream and guacamole made from and avocado. Next to the rice is refried beans and the tostadas probably have beef or chicken rolled into it. In Mexico pork is not uncommon but eating pork down there is risky if it is not cooked well.
My favorite Mexican dish made of chicken and rice.   Mexican food is top on my list of favorites but I grew up with it and cook that way as well. I am starting to date a Mexican American gal so I want to impress her- LOL

By Leti-ta on Flickr

cahaya here is a recipe for you - try it you might like it!!!
http://kidshealth.org/parent/recipes/lactose/li_mexican_chicken.html - http://kidshealth.org/parent/recipes/lactose/li_mexican_chicken.html

I would skip the soy cheese and use real chedder cheese

I really miss Turkish food which is also top on my list. I thought Istanbul had some of the best resturants and cheap. I never forget the time I bought a quarter pounder with cheese at McDonalds, while in Istanbul, and took a bite and threw it away. I then walked to a small outlet and got some real food- Turkish.
Now doesn't this make you hungry???

since the one Greek food resturant here in town is more Mexican I will have to learn to make this myself someday- looks hard.

Now this brings back fond memeries of my late mother's cooking and with lemon sauce on it: mmmmmm!!

Oh man ... Spanakopita ... Food of the Gods!!!

I love that stuff. I don't even know much about Greek cuisine but it is the one dish I learned to make, I just love it so much. It's a real pain in the butt to make, but it's worth it.

Funny story ... we used to get all excited talking about ordering it ... "Spanakopitas!!!! YEAH !!!" ... we had just adopted a cat, after a while of this every time we said the word she would jump up and start beeping ... so that's what we named her, Spanakopita.

Spanakopita rules and its the best breakfast start to the day. That is one of those things i miss about Greece. The other must have dish in my books is egg and lemon soup (ayo-lemeno), its that good i will learn to cook it myself.

Suren I mixed up my dishes, im thinking spinach koresh. What you showed i have also had and I am told i enjoyed immensely. Its has coriander, parsley and leeks with preserved lemons. Those sour plums in the picture (i think thats what it looks like 0 did trick me up a bit, as i assoc that with the koresh. I also like the bottom of the pan rice.

It is spinach pie with feta cheese and it is good. I have never had Malaysian food since I have never seen a restaurant here from your country. I'll bet it is gooooooooooooooooooood.
A fun thing to do is to go out in the wild and collect herbs and edible plants and go fishing. You can cook the fish with the wild herbs and plants. I have done this and it usually comes out great but one warning some native plants taste horrible. Ants and grubs can be added as well but I did this really to learn survival in the wilderness. You fry the ants and then grind them and add them like seasoning. The red ones are spicy but they can bite while collecting them-ouch!!

There is a restaurant in Mexico which serves live bugs of all types. I saw it on a show so google it if you want to see pics of live bug dishes.

It is a reproduction of a German town in the Washington Cascade mountains and there are numerous German restaurants. I have stopped there before and it is so goooood. Up here in Ontario, we have the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest ... a really big event with lots of German food (and beer). I think they usually draw half a million or a million people.

Kitchener has a large population of German descent. Before WW2, it used to be called Berlin ...

Italian now Mama Mia I luvaa that Italiano fooda. I like the Olive Garden but Italian has become so Americana, like many ethnic foods, that I prefer the real deal. I was in Milano, Italy and stopped at a little Italian café and I was in Italian food Heaven. It put any Italian restaurant in America to shame. The second best Italian restaurant I have been to was in Tijuana, Mexico. I cook Italian also and I put mint in my meat balls- try it.

Doesn’t this make you hungry?

no Malay food? Malay and esp Thai is very popular in Sydney, its the new Greek/Italian for Aussies.

Cahaya it has a bit of oil in it (in the filo), but is on the whole very healthy

I have always wanted to try Native American dishes and I am sure it varies like any culture. A lot of Native dishes are now part of our culture and many of the foods they ate, such as corn, have been spread around the world; chocolate, Potatoes- the list can go on.

Now this looks good but I am not sure if the meat is wild deer, buffalo or what?????

I had a friend who learned how to cook Korean food from a Korean and it is gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooodah

A bit spicy but I love it - I wish we had a Korean resturant here, food from above.

Makes me hungry but to think all I packed for lunch today was a Jelly and nutella spread sandwich and Cheddar cheese; with a side of carrots and organic Potato chips. I should add some live grubs to my sandwich-

I now live close to a small desert town but it is off of the inter-state. I am new here but we have one Italian, Greek and numerous Mexican resturants, one Chinese resturant. The rest is fast food or greasy spoon resturants but we do have a subway which I like. Tucson is only 45 minutes away and they have a lot of ethnic resturants but I will have to try Malaysian food sometime.

I really love Turkish food from when I was in Istanbul. It is similar to greek but different and many of the dishes are the same; such as, stuffed peppers etc.

I really miss the open markets and seeing the fresh fish flop around.

Any Turks here have other pics of their foods.

I'll tell you something about traditional Slovenian food. We have many so this is just a tip of an iceberg.Smile

Ok... This is Nut roll (in our language - Potica). It's a traditional Slovenian desert.

This is another desert. It's called Prekmurian layer cake (in our language - Prekmurska gibanica; Prekmurje ist part of Slovenia). It contains poppy seeds, walnuts, apples, raisins, and cottage cheese fillings.

This is Kranjska Sausage ( Kranjska klobasa). Need to say more? Smile

You can add to this sousage some cabagge and:

Matevž is a sidedish made of beans and potatoes. Its origins is in 19th century. Originally the lower social classes ate it as main course.

And what do you have to add to make perfect?

Cviček is one of traditional Slovenian wines. Yeah. We like to drink.

Boy, it all looks good and food is the one thing we can generally agree upon. Many of us might disagree on politics, religion or history but food is a common bond.

I have made a couple of my own dishes and photographed them with my digital camera but I thought this would be better than copying and pasting. If anyone else cooks it would be great to photograph and put the end producton on this thread- Food Fans Club. I made some Spegetti and meat balls so once I finish it today I will takes pics but it might be a week or two before I can get around to adding it here.

I like to make Greek, Italian and Mexican dishes so let's make this better by adding you own cooking.

Dawn just think of it as a place where bickering parties can find common ground and food is often a good start. You know how hot some of the topics can get here. I think it is good!!

One of my favorite side dishes is Glazed Carrots it is a perfect compliment to a nice piece of steak or chicken.  I am also quite fond of Saag Aloo and other Indian dishes.

Ask a Frenchman-

I use to live in S. California for a bit and they have a lot of those type of snails. I just could not stomach the thought of eating snail but the French love them or many do.

Does this look more tasty to you?
