If you're a great swordsman and a mediocre rider. On horseback you're a mediocre swordsman.

Your skill of fighting on horseback is limited to your horsemanship.

The bow legged nomad will triumph.

I suppose it makes sense that a literal lifetime of Steppe horsemanship should be inherently superior to bajutsu.

just like a 1v1 duel, i need details. is it a marsh? whats the weather like? how many vs how many?
