The language of the people of the royal house of Macedonia, the Temenids', was a branch of the Aeolian family of the Hellenic languages. The dictionary of Hesychius contains as I can remember over 100 words that were used by the Argeade nation of Macedonia which finally expanded gradually allover the region and incorporated territories inhabited by both Hellenic (Tymphaeans, Orestes, Elimiotes, Eordaeans, Lyncestians, Pelagonians and the Greek colonies of Chalkidike) and "barbarian" tribes (Paeonians, Phrygians, Thracians, Illyrians, Dardanians).

If anyone has access to Hesychius' work and can share with me some examples of the Macedonian words and terms I would be glad. Thanks in advance!

Trying to provoke some kind of response from Slavic Macedonians, are we?

Not at all my friend. My main care was to raise a discussion regarding the Macedonian words Hesychius has recorded. If Bulgarians response to it by their fabrications it is not my fault.

What do you mean by this "our fabrications"? I did not get your point!!!

We have never said that the ancient macedonians are not Hellenes.

Tzar, I was referring to the Bulgarians of Skopje who are pretty much confused of their origin and unfortunately make up myths about it. Good point Qnzkid711!

A great forum for this topic is: http://www.network54.com/Forum/22270
But, I will warn that it is not moderated and some people on both sides are quite abusive.

FYROM vs. Greeks plus Bulgarians, Turks, Albanian, and others.

Another great resource for this topic is:

This is from the Greeks stand point. I do not know the web site for the opposite view.

Those forums are never well regulated and are always filled with dumb nationalistic 5 year olds. Just my opinion ofcourse

Note: Talking about the network54 forum

This seems to be better organized. Still full of five year olds though.

I don't see that he is getting out of hand! Nationalism is not all bad if it is not taken to a hateful extreme. I consider myself a nationalist American and I beleive in strong borders, language and culture.
