I know Iranian people are commonly known as Persians... what about Medians? I know those people existed in ancient times (ex. Persian Empire)... did they die out? Assimilated into Persians or what?

Well actually they existed as an ethnic group up until they were completely assimilated by Oghuz Turks by the 17th century, but the Mede nobles became assimilated with Persian nobility long before.   In my opinion their language was a variant of Parthian ( which became extinct at the said period in present Azarbaijan). The group with the closest tangible affiliation with them are Zazas in Turkey, Talyshis and Kalhor/Feyli speaking Kurds as well as Iranian Sorani and Kermanj Kurds.

But this is just my opinion.
