A new phenomena is wandering through the virtual world like a ghost and is glueing everyones brain.

YouTube, an information source with more than an suspect character.
Everyone, who feels appointed, is squishing his/her pap on the server, hoping that another dunce will notice it.

Fascists, Paedophiles and much more lunatic are using this platform, to carry out their crap into the world. (oops, i do nearly the same here on AE)

As an information source YouTube is named very often, even here in our Forum. What's so fascinating at YouTube?

In former times, centuries ago, when i was young, illustrated books of the ancient greece, national parks around the world where the the only picture source beside the black and white tv, 2 chanels, and the porno mags, i found at my dad's diy-cellar.
Today, young girls of eleven are getting a middle-heavy crisis, if the server of dad's pc went down, and therefore YouTube isn't available for half an hour.

The Anti YouTube Thread is opened now..........

It seems Turkish courts agree with you. They have banned the thing again!

Youtube is ingenious. A free format to watch/post creative videos, not to mention a nifty way to catch up on your old rock favorites. Clips of Don Kirshner's "In Concert" or Sugarman's "Midnight Special" anyone?

Appears that they like the game of merry-go-round! Apparently Turkey loves to live in the past instead of get in on with the fun that is youtube. Youtube isn't anti anything. It's the people that make it interesting. Before you know it people of UvH's ilk will be moving there as a safe haven from that demon youtube. LOLWink

I believe that Turkeys move is rather strategic than real...They do not wish to ban youtube forever, but with a temporary ban, force youtube to remove some insulting videos. Just an idea...

Youtube is not the devil...Some users are. We're still a young culture in our universe of IT and we have to discover new rational (no i won't missuse the world democracy again) and sensible ways to stop the missuse of it.

Education, education, education!

I agree Seko.
I have a virtual "Jukebox" of all the stars of bygone days when I was a young musician myself (rock and jazz drumplayer) - and earlier.

I have most of them on vinyl, but YouTube offers the live recordings, and it sure makes a difference, actually to see them on stage, instead of just hearing the music/songs.

Used for reference it has no validation, like Ulrich said - or did he now?  - can never be sure with that man. Wink
Other than that, its a place for free expression (to a certain limit), and although much of it is garbage, free expression is a good thing.

well youtube is just a mirror of TV and the internet. if we're going to boycott youtube for all crap that is on it, we could also boycott the TV and itnernet as a whole as well.

I use youtube mainly to listen to different versions of folk music. The program that I watch the most there is a series based on the mountain dulcimer--good luck finding that anywhere else. :)

You tube is a dump, but you can be selective about what you watch.

If you go searching for rubbish, you'll find it. But look in the right places and you can find many treasures there as well. In other words, when i'm bored I look t people falling over. When I need to listen to music or watch a video, I look that up. When I want to see a clip of something that I found interesting or entertaining, I'll search there again. And I make no apologies for it. If YouTube is a dump and should be boycotted, what does that say about the rest of society? Are we degenerates to be tarred with the same immoral brush?
