I'm interested in studying in detail the Safavids of Persia and am curious if anyone has any good suggestions for some detailed books. Thanks

Hmmm...Osman's dream covers them from an external perspective and deals quite well with some of the religious issues of the later Safavid Persians. I'm not sure about primary sources and works directly on them, though. You could always try Routledge publishers, who will definately have something on them...
