How to get protection from HEAT weapon...

I heard that some of the Soviet's supertank had armour capable of resisting the HEAT weapons... what kind of armour effectively withstand HEAT? How does it work?

Composite armour. Most modern tanks can easily withstand HEAT (Travis our local Tanker can tell you more),  IIRC HEAT is only kept to deral with APC and other vehicals now.

    Or more simply for those nations without the know-how to make composite armour, spaced armour, should defeat HEAT. The first layer gets penetrated by the hot sh!t, it loses enough momentum for the second layer to stop it.

In addition to modern composite armours, countries such as Israel and the USSR developed "reactive armour".  In theory at least, an outward focused explosive charge in the armour itself  detonates when impacted by a HEAT weapon.  This explosive force then negates the inward cone of penetrating force caused by the exploding HEAT warhead.  (like an Airbag).
Evidently, the concept works to a degree, but is also dangerous to the users.  One advantage though is that it can be easily bolted on to older tanks.  
 
The Russian have also tested  a system that detects an approaching HEAT missile and then fires a steel plate into the missile's path.  The resulting impact causes the missile to either detonate or crash short of the tank.   The Israeli Trophy system maybe a similar concept.  I dont think that either one of these two systems has actually been fielded though.

I dont know about the term "easily".  I would argue that modern tanks are generally immune to HEAT weapons.
 
HEAT weapons keep getting more advanced (Tandem Warheads, Larger warheads, etc)   Even some of the best modern tanks (M-1 and Merkava) can get penetrated (especially on the roof or the engine deck)  Penetrations are rare though and catastrophic hits even rarer (or non existant).  Evidently the HEAT related Merkava losses in Lebanon have been highly exagerrated.

The use of HE is bnow mainly in ATGM IIRC. For tanks their main anti-Tank round is the APFSDS. The DU ones espevially can defeat all tanks at normal battle ranges.

So Hellfire missile is not the only think that can take out Abrams tanks...

It's all about where on the tank you hit it. Most modern MBT have an RHA protection value of over 1000mm in the front for HEAT(which means they an equivalent of that thickness of rolled homogenous armor).
 
All tanks have weaker armor on the sides or rear. Even an RPG should be able to penetrate an Abrams in the rear and modern ATGMs will penetrate it's side armor. Many of the new ATGM are top attack weapons and hit the tank in the roof where it's armor is thinest. It's one of the reasons designers are moving to active defence systems.
 
Reactive armor works by bouncing an armor plate into the path of the HEAT jet. The jet cuts along the length of the plate not just through the thickness and is greatly weakened before it even hits the tanks armor.

Reactuive armour is very good. In Congo one of our tanks took an AP shot (from artillery) on the back and brushed it off.

There's even new reactive armor that will defeat AP long rods. I think babyblue posted a thread about the Chinese developing it a while ago.

It has a thicker armor plate on the bottom instead of the top of the explosive brick. The AP round hits the reactive block and it's tip is trapped by the lower plate when the block detonates. The outer plate then shears the first third of the rod off.

Or somehting like that.
