Anyone see a movie recently? What was it and was it worth watching?

I went to see Casino Royale a few weeks back when it first came out here in Australia. It was actually quite a decent film IMHO. The plot was better, though fairly complex, and Daniel Craig played Bond well. Good Movie, I'd go see it again. Any others praises/criticism of Casino Royale?

I saw Apocalypto last night, it was a great movie!

I went to go see Casino Royale a couple days ago. I thought the movie was very good, especially the writing and the acting. The plot was kind of complex, but still good all the same.

I also just rented Even Dwarfs Started Small, one of the more creepy movies I've seen in a while. Its about a group of dwarves at an institution that rebell against their instructor and basically go crazy. A film definately worth seeing.

I saw Flags of Our Fathers about a month ago, and it was a very good movie. I found it strange how they filmed some of it in Iceland.

Saw "Beerfest" Wink

Its quite awesome, but so are the infamous group of actors. I think i am going to see "Club Dread" again in the coming days to enjoy an American comedy group comparable to Brittish ones.

I saw Eragon two days ago. What a pity. I liked the book a lot, but the moviemakers took a perfectly nice story and turned into crap. They took the beginning and the end and stuck em together, and the whole middle part (the point of the story) was just cut out, and they effed up the chronology of what was left, making it completely illogical....

I also wonder, I just finished the second book and it takes the story on from a lot of points and events that were left out or changed in the movie, so if they are gonna make a second movie it will have to suck even more to make it fit with the first. What a bummer.

But the little baby dragon was sooo cute, it made up for a lot. And I always love to watch Jeremy Irons...

I recently got the movie Miracle as a gift(ChristmasBig smile) and I think it's my favorite movie ever. It's about the 1980 American Hockey team and them beating the odds and expectations. The film tried to portray the hard work the players did to reach their level. Infact they did it so well, that when you see the players actually getting sick and dropping over from being tired, that wasn't acting.

Most importantly, the movie is about the late Herb Brooks and how he took a bunch of players that couldn't win alone with skills and made them win as a team. Herb Brooks is definitly a Hockey Legend in the US.

Anyways I recommend this movie for everyone, Hockey fan or not.

If anyone thought Eragon wouldnt be crap they must have not seen the commercials...first thing I thought was "massive cheesy sh*te"!

Apocalypto=awesome, I love violence and gore and Mayans so how could I lose?

Borat=totally awesome made even better because I have a friend in peace core central Asia and I sent him a bootleg copy.

Casino Royale= best Bond movie, but thats not saying much as I really dont like Bond movies.  It was boring and the romance was super cheesy (why cant we just agree to take romance out of movies?) but for a Bond film, it was pretty good.

Saw City of God on dvd, its now a new favorite of mine.

I also finally got my copy of Lady Vengeance in the mail.  W00t Chan woo Park is the best director in the history of film!

Of course I knew it would be crap... I was gang-pressed in seeing it... Wink

And I was curious: The book was nice and the cast looked ok enough. I could have worked... But even a lot of good actors cannot save such a crappy script.Confused

What an opportune thread, I've watched a ton of movies lately.

Just as many others here I've also watched Casino Royale, unlike many others here I found it a vast improvement over the recent Bond movies with Brosnan, which kinda made me give up on the whole concept. Casino Royale reinvents Bond for a new audience, for a new time, the old formula which they tried to copy in Brosnan's movies is just that - the old formula. I more or less agree with Tobodai's take on it.

In addition I've been on a bit of a Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki anime trip, purchasing most of their work. Howl's Moving Castle was stunning and very touching, the same goes for the old classic My Neighbour Totoro which although old I hadn't seen before. I also got Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart, Nausicaa the Valley of the Wind, Laputa - Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso and Kiki's Delivery Service. I haven't had the time to watch these yet but the latter three I have seen before, and of course they're excellent.

Saw Casino Royale again today...very good for the second time. I think Daniel Craig is a vast improvement (as a Bond) than the sauve Brosnan. Full Marks for the person who chose him.

"Babel" yesterday, didn't really see it a masterpiece, could have been much better with that kind of a story.

"Apocalypto" - Pretty well done actually i think, i enjoyed it anyway.

"The Holiday" - blasted what a horrendous movie, it was like porn without nudity when Diaz and Jude Law had their dialogues, although i like both actors. And Jack Black in it, for what reason? Yet it was very enjoyable to see him in such a role, every image he made made me think he's going to say someone to "F..." something in some form.LOL

Old Boy- Brilliant, but very very twisted with a lot of incest, don't let that put you off though, it's a special film.

Smokin' Aces was horrendous. The acting was terrible, don't even mention the 'script', and the only moment of some merit was the gunning down of Affleck and his crew before they even got a chance to get at Aces. Smart, but also demonstrated the intelligence of Affleck to get out of the film quick to avoid damaging his reputation forever. What was the final fight scene? A hodge-podge of gratuitous violence attempting to imitate the Tarantino style, but failing in its crudity and vacant emotional impact. PLUS, the twist at the end was telegraphed from very early on, because the director could not avoid being crude in even one aspect of this terrible film.

Blue Velvet- very good, but the love interest was pretty irrelevant which was annoying.

I watched Team America last night, and Serenity the night before.
Serenity first, having discovered the series (Firefly) belatedly and liked it for its, well, uniqueness (subtly Sinocised American wild west in space), the movie expanded on it, and explained a few issues (more about the 'Alliance' and where the weavers come from). The sets and effects were better, and the acting seemed better too somehow (maybe better sets brings out the most in the cast?), overall, i liked it, will probably look into buying the miniseries (Benelux edition apparently has bonus DVD).

Team America i've seen before and its always a good laugh. Its easily the most sophisticated puppet movie ever made, the makers (Parker and Stone) really got their sh*t together hiring the best technical experts, getting the best technical gizmo for manipulating puppets and so on. Having achieved a degree of puppet technological perfection that is unrivaled in human history, they then threw seriousness in the bin and proceded to take the piss out of the entire project. I envy them, they must have had great fun making this movie.
Really it should be bad, there is a vauge semblance of a plot, but you tend not to notice it much, and some things are done over the top. But it somehow ends up being good, not in a 'its so bad its good' kind of way, but in a 'omg i can't believe they did that' kind of way.
Watch it twice, then watch the behind the scenes extras, then watch it again and appreciate it in a new light.
I really home Parker and Stone make more puppet movies, but not with Team America, as a sequel would be rather lame.

The only movies I have seen recently are Flyboys (one of the best movies I have been priviledged to watch in the past few years), and The Nativity Story, I loved it, although I did not entirely agree with it--and I'm sure part of my love for the movie was based on my inclination toward the subject matter.

Casino Royale. Finally, a James Bond movie that didn't focus too much on technology crap. Finally, a true action Bond movie that was worth watching. I have been very disappointed ever since the release of "Die Another Day"...

I watched Prestige. I got disapppointed with the book, but the movie was actually good.

I want to watch The Nativity Story... is it good at all?

And flyboy seems to be another boring WWII movie that just wastes time. The only good WWII movie I watched was Saving Private Ryan and The battle of Iwo Jima...

And about Perfume... is it good? The trailer just looked weird...

Blood and Chocolate-not to good
The number 23- Weird movie, fell asleep during it
Grudge 2 - Horrible movie pathetic ending
Flags of our Fathers - Was ok but kind of want to see the Japanese side one whenever it comes out if not already out.

Don't you get that too, that when you fall asleep during a really strange movie, your dreams become so weird? Because you kindof take in the sounds and colours but not the story, and so your mind starts to improvise? LOL

I saw three movies recently. i want to express my feeling.

A night at the mesuem

An exciting movie. I am think that New York is really a great city.It can absorb different king of people. this is of course investor(the new boy friend of thet night guard 's divorced wife). There is history student who is writing the paper(, a great musuem)American Museum of Natural history). We know that New York is the global financial centre, but the research of arts or history can also exist. In Hong Kong, people only care about financial activities, stocks, history or arts are those unpopular subjects.

The letters of iwo jima, this film reflect how the war harmed Japanese themselves, but is made by American, when will the Japanese talk abot their role in World war 2 more fairly.

300 spartans. I think I am watching Lord of the Rings, how come monster, big elephants appear? And Sparta can not be the symbol of freedom ,Justice and Reason.  It is a very barbaric city state. His king is a dictator.

"Plan 9 from outer space" (1959) - nothing to say about it. you know!

"Prince of Darkness" (1987) - I liked it, the atmosphere was there, but it could have been made so much better.

Last King of Scotland - Good, some parts in the beginning were a bit too long. I still though it was better than The Departed

I am Cuba - Good Cuban/Soviet propaganda film with great cinematography.

Give me an A! Give me a B...! What does it spell?  Babel, Borat and The Prestige.

Borat was slapstick comedy for the 21'st century. Makes most anyone he had contact with look like an idiot. I give it a 'C' for humor. An 'A' for ridiculous scenes (that hotel room segment made me laugh pretty hard).

Babel was a slow flick that makes the viewer eventually connect the pieces. One innocent gun leads to many international incidents affecting numerous families. 'C' for being slow and predictable after the first half hour. 'B' for the diverse locations.

The Presitge is the sleeper out this bunch. Magic, showmanship, good acting and Tesla the man. 'A' for twists and thrillilng turns.

I saw El Labyrinto del Fauno. It was amazing. I do not see how people can make such a big deal about 300, but not this one.

I love Vanilla Sky, even though it took me about five times (literally) to understand it fully.

Traffic is a great film as well, nice intertwined plots, the conscience and the cold, the supply and demand, the victimless crime versus the victim. Much more complicated than that but definitely one of the best recent films out there.

Smoking aces - I tried to get into but was not really a good movie. The ending had so many twists in it it made my head hurt. I should of known how good the movie was going to be when I saw ben affleck in it. Though he had a small role.

Van Wilder 2 - not very funny not very good.

Evil Bong - Not exactly sure why I decided to watch this one. Still not sure

Bloodrayne - For some reason when I downloaded this I thought I was going to get an animation type movie based off the video game. Unfortunately I got some horrible B type flick with the blonde girl that was in Terminator 3.

The Man who would be king - Sean Connery and Michael Caine classic. Its lost a bit of luster in its age but I still love this movie and decided to watch it to erase the memory of the other trash I watch this week Tongue

Saw Borat on Saturday. Khazakastan was worried about this giving them a bad image? This movie made me embarrassed of being American. And you can see how the media here twists the truth to make a story with that rodeo part.
New Yorkers didn't seem happy, but I guess that was due to him trying to kiss him lol. And the Southerners really seemed like intolerant red necks. Showed the Christian Conservatives as crazy whackos. The movie really didn't give Americans a good image.
Sad part is, it was all true...LOL

I finally got my hands on an English subtitled version of Ran and Kagemusha. Ran is a spectacular movie for its time frame considering not much CGI, if any, was used for the battle scenes. Incredible camera work and good storyline. Kagemusha was good as well.

I also saw Curse of the Golden Flower which was quite a colourful movie and I think kept me entranced throughout it. Or could of been how the women dressed in itLOL

300 - nobody could act, it was like the trailer was made 60 times longer. It had a good principle of freedom fighting in it.  Good to see computers are still developing, otherwise it was a lousy movie with nothing to make it above anything else.

Going to see "The Devils rejects" and "Cannibal Holocaust" soon.

Chronos - entertaining, but a little lacking in ... something.

I saw TMNT yesterday. I was skeptical going in (for me, unless you have 4 grown men dressing up in turtle costumes, it doesn't count as a TMNT movie), but it was pretty good. Voice acting was pretty good (Patrick Stewart was excellent as usual). 8/10
