Throughout history there has been many 1000s of different art froms and 1000s upon 1000s of fine pieces of painting, craft, design etc have been produced all over the world.

My own preference, simply because of my fascination with the period in general, is Ancient Egyptian Art.

This is one of those types of art that you immeaditly recognise when you see it even if you have no interest in the Culture. The colours are so viberant that the images seem to come alive and the detail is so fine that you're left in no doubt of the expertise of the Craftsman. Its quite unlike any other art form in the world and its uniqueness is one of its best feature.

But the wonderful thing about Egyptian art is its not just there fro Aesthetic reasons. Every piece tells a story or has a meaing. The many famous tomb paintings for example are prayers and spells to help the deceased on his//her journey to the afterlife. They also tell about the deceased life to the Gods as part of the last Judgement of the dead before Osiris.

 Tutankhamuns Throne

This is easily my favourite piece of Art from Egypt or any where else. This is the Throne of Tutankhamun and the beautiful image depicts the Boy-King and his Queen Ankhesenamun in a touching moment. The young Queen is helping her husband to adjust his collar. The King reclines casually on his seat and the two seem completely at ease with eachother.

The detail in this piece is amazing. The skill required to created the delicate folds of clothing and beads on the collars is incredible. The colours are bright and almost bring the image to life and the image as a whole is a testament to the beauty, skill and power of Egyptian art. It was made to last for eternity and it has.

I love Indian Rajput and Mughal miniature paintings, used to illustrate manuscripts depicting court life, hunting parties, processions.

We bought a hand painted copy in Udaipur which has number of small galleries reproducing them, and its lovely.

A couple of examples here.

I also like the preraffaelite artists depicting the Arthurian legends, this one is the Lady of Shalott

I like those Indian paintings. I love anything with viberant colours. They remind me of the Arabian Nights and for some reason my trip to Tunisia.

I think that this thread deserves to be resurrected, it seems like a good opportunity to post pictures of ancient art, that can be discussed or just admired and used later or referred to in other posts.

So, I'm post here some Ancient Greek art - I generally don't have preferences, I admire ancient Egyptian, Greek, Indian art all the same, but one has to start from somewhere.

Any mountain range..high alpine valley or the desert floor, in the spring, when the rains and snow melt has produced a new year's supply of flowers.

But if ya mean what the title suggestions...then they are too many to list.
However I am a Rembrandt and Albrecht Durer fan.

Me tooSmile. They are 2 oppsotites - Rimbrand with his exuberant read ans gold colors and everyday-joy -of-life themes and Durer with his highly detailed black-whites, heavy with philosophic content.
Let's make a thread about them - like "Late Renaissance Art" or something. Nowadays I tend to think that narrowly specified OP is better because it's easier to follow and can be used later as an archive, for references in connections with other threads. I'll do it when I come back.

Here, CV, I made the thread http://www.allempires.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=31431&PID=669957#669957 - http://www.allempires.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=31431&PID=669957#669957   , and the first 2 artists from the period I'm going to post from and comment are Rembrandt and Durer.
