I like variety more then just one band. Though if given the ultimatum to one last song it would probably be something from Pink Floyd. I'm not to sure what song though as it would be easier for me to list the songs i dont like from them then the ones I do.

"Metallica for sure."

Metallica is one of the "Big Four" of thrash metal founders, now turned a little more off that legendary course what i know based on hear say.

Let's not categorize every band with guitars into some undefinable ROCK genre.Wink

Wow, it is so cool to see that two Greeks on this forum like U2!  They are one of my favorite bands.  I was able to see their 2000 Elevation Tour in Chicago - great show!  Has U2 ever come to Greece on tour?

This is probably my favorite song by U2.  The emotion conveyed in the lyrics and the melody is amazing.  The video was cool too, when they played unannounced on the hotel rooftop.  Did you know that the song was so tricky to record in the studio in 1987 that they almost scrapped it?  Ironic that it would become one of their most popular songs.

I was so excited back in 1999-2000 when I heard that U2 was coming out with a new album.  After the piece of crap that was Pop (my opinion), I was hoping for something that went back to their signature sound.  "Beautiful Day" definitely went back to what made them great and what made them U2.

Do you have this albumThe Unforgettable Fire is really my favorite album by them.  Most people like Joshua Tree or one of the newer ones and forget about the masterpiece that is Unorgettable Fire.  In order to get a variety of different soundscapes, they set up a mobile recording studio in a medieval Irish castle and recorded songs in different rooms!  "A Sort of Homecoming" is a very emotional song and has one of Bono's best vocal performances.  No one ever talks about the song "Elvis Presley and America," which is unique because Bono improvised on the spot the lyrics and the vocal melody.

Not sure what one classifies under the broad definition of rock, and my favorite band is ever changing, right now it is definately System of a Down, if you consider that rock.

The Can?  You mean that German band with Czukay, Liebezeit, and Damo Suzuki?  Far out.  Czukay also did some amazing solo/collabortion works with people like Brian Eno or Jah Wobble.  Maybe not as virtuoso on bass as Levin or Jaco, but a rare visionary.

Ulrich, how did you get into ELP?

Thanks to my father, I listened to mostly classic rock when I was growing up through middle school and high school.  Contemporary rock seemed by and large like a load of crap compared to the classic rock greats.  ELP's triple live record, Welcome Back My Friends... (1974), was my favorite and we listened to an old tape of it that my dad made from the original record set.  I was hooked with the majesty and power, not to mention their talent, of the music.  Palmer's stainless steel drumset, Emerson's modular Moog and keyboard arsenal, and Lake's unique voice and bass playing was like nothing I had ever heard.  I was fortunate enough to see them live back in 1996.  It was an amazing show, but nothing like the grandeur of their seventies live shows.

Not familiar with that one.

His 'best of' during the blue note years is a good one to hear detail come through on a decent stereo.

'Rights of Strings' is pretty decent with Stanley Clark and Jean Luc Ponty.

Check this band out.  I have been listening to their debut album a lot lately.  Listen to the combination of the heavy 7-string electric guitar grooves on the first track with the more jazz-fusion style on the second.  This is Sun Caged:

U2 are so fecking overated. Bono is just a big poser.

I'm a fan of the classic rock, I'd probably say Creedence Clearwater Revival.

^^ lol @ fecking

well I think U2 are fecking awesome.. haha

Been a fan since their debut.. and had the privilege of seeing them
with the legend BB King back in 1988, during their "Rattle and Hum" tour.

They kinda lost me during their zooropia phase though, they started becoming a bit more pretentious and 'image' conscious.

Rolling Stones are living legends, had an amazing amount of hits, etc..
I think the Beatles poo all over them though..
but U2 are getting my vote on this one.

Croppy Boy you've got me singing credence's 'bad moon rising' hehe

DireStraits is a British Rock group. They don't perform anymore. In fact, their last album (not an offical album; but remixed of old songs) was 2000, if I'm not wrong. I've got all their songs. That's also correct for Pink Floyd.
