Whom is your favorite general of the Southern army during the ACW and
why.

(btw: know J.s. Mosby was no general but a lieutenant-colonel but as he
is my favorite I had to state him.

I didnt feel like saying "another one" so I picked Lee as he was the best from teh list, but John Gordon is my favorite personally.

What?!  Having to use "another one" to select the best tactician of the war?!

Anyway, the aforementioned "another one" I voted for is Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson.  Old Blue Light's tactical maneuver after the sending of Banks across the Potomac was amazing- he managed to destroy the attempted pincer sent from Washington, defeating Fremont at Cross Keys and then turning about to defeat Shields the day after.

Some other Confederates I like:

William Lowther "Mudwall" Jackson:  Served his cousin(Stonewall) well while acting as part of his staff before recruiting the 19th Virginian Cavalry.

Jean Jacques Alfred Alexander Mouton:  Was noted as having outsanding service at the head of the 18th Louisiana during the Battle of Shiloh.  Upon healing from near fatal wounds he received during Shiloh, he was promoted to brigadier general, and served under General Richard Taylor.  Taylor even commented that Mouton had considerable skill and ability as a commander.  However, he met an unfortunate end while leading a charge against the Union during the Battle of Mansfield.

i feel totally shocked i forgot to put Jackson on the list. And then becasue
he is actually my 2nd favorite. I am so sorry.

Let's pretend all another one's is Jackson as i am unable to change a poll.
Maybe a mod would do this for me.

I picked Nathan Bedford Forrest, Argueably the greatest and the most fearful Cavalry General of the Civil War. A slave trader before the war. Unlike other Confederate generals, he received no formal training on warfare prior to the war . He was wounded many times,
and personally killed many men by his own hand. A true real fire-breathing, unrepentant warrior.

I picked Forrest too. Like Napolean he understood the proper use of artillery in battle.

Agree entirely about Jackson.

Indeed, I've sometimes had the possibly heretical thought that Lee, by himself, was only a good general, and that it was Lee and Jackson together who were great.
