With climate change and the possibility of the opening up of the Northwest Passage, there are growing international interests (Canadian, American, Russian, Danish) in the territorial claims of the previously neglected and largely uninhabited Artic islands (most of them are actually just rocks). One of the examples of such dispute is the one over Hans Island which is claimed by both Denmark and Canada.

Even though I am Canadian, I despise blind nationalism and I think the whole dispute should be resolved through sane diplomatic means, i.e. negotiations. However, I would like to bring up one interesting point. Given Denmark's renewed interest in the Artics, does it mean it's going to re-tighten its grip over Greenland even though there have been calls for increasing autonomy or even eventual independence from Denmark by the Greenlanders?
