November 26, 1942 the first congress of the Anti-Fascist Council of National Liberation of Yugoslavia met in the Bosnian town of Bihac.
Dominated by the Communist partisans under the leadership of Josip Broz Tito, the meeting tried to unite the various factions of resistance against the Nazi-German and Italian occupiers and their puppet regimes ( Ustasha), and lay the first foundations for a free Yugoslavia after a possible victory.
One of the main agreements reached was the emphasis on the equal rights of all ethnic groups inside Yugoslavias, that later became one of the pillars of the Titoist government.
It is thus a rather tragic turn of history, that Bihac became the scene of one of the most vicious conflicts in the Yugoslav Civil Wars of the 1990s, when Serbian forces besieged and bombarded the town whose population was in its majority Bosnian, for more than three years.
1922 Having discovered the tomb three weeks earlier, the British Archaeologist Howard Carter and the Earl of Carnarvon become the first men to view the inside of the last resting place of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun at Luxor for more than three thousand years.
1942 The film Casablanca has its premiere in New York City.
1950 China entered the Korean conflict by launching offensive across the Yalu River against UN, US and South-Korean troops.
