Be careful about serbs! They will kill you,
I think you should choose Kanuni Sultan Suleyman, I think he lived longest.

Try to stay on topic and elaborate your remarks by examples, and use quote before labeling anything crappy. You might have a different viewpoint, as I have one with an open mind. You seemed to get frustrated for nothing.

Tauska the phrase "silly comments" was not for you but in general(actually a kind of joke)
but I can now see that no one has patience for those kind of things
what can i say now
BTW,yes,I am asking you ALL(all of you who make "roles" from their computers)
what would you do if you were ataturk
and no,you obviously dont know what ataturk did
it is an unfortunate event to see even today there are still "some" kind of mentalities exist

And please but PLEASE dont take it offensive(you can't eh )
werent they the ottomans that brought Belly-dancing and women sex-slavery to turkey?
Please be honest
if we are having a morality crisis it is also the fault of the ottomans.
isnt it the ottoman lovers who are against (well I am against it to be honest) non-modest clothing(lemme be more specififc;western style clothings) of turkish women but cant see that the ottomans are the reason behind this?

Err, noone said ottomans are angels, but they are ancestors.
Also there were not large slavery at ottomans, and none of them abused like in america.
ok you dont like ottomans, but no need to exegerate things.
With good or bad, they are our ancestors. Even founder of our beloved Turkey is an ottoman soldier.

well,I always wanted to be in the mode of "kill the criminal but dont crush his rights".I am not saying Ataturk was perfect.
Actually I have a reasonable "distance" with ataturk too because he brought western style of life(are u surprised?? )
we have to question our past without taboos to go through the future
yeah geneticaly they are our ancestors,and if they had stayed as if they were in the rule of Osman and Orhan khans,I would be proud to be a descendant of them...

Well they have their mistakes too, they built an empire, Empires cannot be nationalist. Also nationalism is a new thing.
As I said accept or not, they are our ancestors. I am not a nationalist, but If I am, I wont refuse neither selcuks(remember how they love persian culture) nor ottomans.

The subject in this topic is not to answer someone asking "what would you do if you were in power then?" The past is the past and anyone lived in the past has made his/her fair share of achievements, as well as mistakes. I respect and support the alphabet reform, but so far I have never thought extensively about why it was done. Nobody here seemed to me writing anything crappy. Why don't you quote the so-called crappy remarks and prove otherwise.
I am sure, it would be appreciated, if you can contribute to the topic by reviewing your explanation of what motivated this reform. You may plead ignorance, if you aren't sure.
There is no magic in the history and no one landed from the space. So, we took over the ottoman heritage and institutions either decayed, backward or modern; consequently, Turkish republic is the main country succeeding collapsed ottoman empire. Obviously "what ataturk has done" doesn't need people restrain refrain to discuss his achievements. In my opinion, Ataturk would not wish to be treated like a dogma.

Perhaps, ok ge has already read those posts, but those posts on that discussion give opinions of some posters.

The main reason is because Arabic script was hard to learn. The literacy was %1 percent in the Ottoman Empire, later it had increased much more in the beginning of the republic with education initiatives.
And plus, most of the reasons ok ge had written, even probably the reasoning in number 4, is correct

We gave up your happiness
Your hope would be enough;
we couldn't find neither;
we made up sorrows for ourselves;
we couldn't be consoled;
