My apologies for not having a full article today. Some of the work I had took too long and I got too tired afterward.

1236 - Sword Brothers defeated by Lithuanians. This caused the order to join with the Teutonic knights.

1908 - Bulgarian independent from the Ottoman Empire.

1960 - Mali independent from France. Mali was made a french Colony in 1880.

Actually the Federation of Mali, including French Sudan and Senegal, was proclaimed in June 20, 1960. Senegal withdrew in August, keeping former French Sudan the historical name of Mali. What Mali did in Septeber 22 wasn't to become independent but getting out from the French Communaut, a French bad copy of the British Commonwealth.

...

Other curious anniversaries (from Wikipedia):
Today is also the Autumnal equinox in the Northern hemisphere, Vernal equinox in the Southern hemisphere 1996, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2012 (by UT).

Have a nice Autumn/Spring.

I've noticed that Wikipedia's list is sometimes incorrect. For this date, it says that the Soviets detonated its first atomic bomb, but I think that was in August. A few days ago, I also noticed that it incorrectly dated the battle of Chalons on the "day in history" page.

Imperator:  in re Wikipedia

People are going to get tired of hearing this, but I don't care.

Wikipedia is a source of much mis-information.  It certainly is not a substitute for the reading of scholarly sources, and for comparartive analysis of one source against another.

Wikipedia is an example of proof that the power of the internet as a tool is matched only by it's shallowness as a resource.

Read; think; analyze.

Re: Wikipedia.

If you KNOW that something you find in Wikipedia is wrong, please, do not hesitate and correct it. Many many people write for Wikipedia (in theory every person not IP-banned can do it freely) in 99.99% of the cases the intention is good, in 90% of the cases the result is reasonably good but there will always be a small percentage of cases where there's an error or lack of enough info or a horribly written article. If you find it, please, fix it.
