Q12: The original main use for fingerprints in police practice was not that to find who was present on a crime site, but to identify people: in fact, habitual criminals used to give false names in order to avoid the more severe penalty due to their relapse into crime. Still, at first, not the fingerprint system, but another one, was the more used to identify people. How was that system called, what did it consist in, and who invented it?

A12: 1)It was called "anthropometry"; 2)it consisted in taking a series of body measurements: [JPEG, (111.00 KB)"
 3) it was invented by Alphonse Bertillon:

Those who answered completely: Kolovrat, fastspawn

Extra information: Bertillon system was abandoned world-wide, in favor of fingerprints, because it failed to provide reliable and unique measurements and was too cumbersome to administer in a uniform manner; moreover, fingerprints have more uses than simple identification, since they can be a proof that a certain person touched a certain thing. A. Bertillon, was a pioneer of modern police practice, and even if his anthropometry did not survive, other methods he invented did, like the use to systematically photograph a crime scene, and that of taking pictures of arrested people, in front and in profile.

Q13: In 1809, a very famous monarch was victim of a theft. Only a convicted criminal, turned detective, managed to solve the case. 1)Who was the monarch? 2)What has been stolen? 3)Who solved the case? 4)Why this latter person is very important in the history of police corps?
A13: 1)Napoleon Bonaparte
2)An emerald necklace he had granted to his wife Josephine
3)Eugne Vidocq
4)Vidocq was the first chief of the famous French Police Corp Brigade de la Sret (Security Brigade), and is considered the first modern detective of the world

Those who answered completely: Kolovrat

Those who answered partially: fastspawn

Extra information: He was the first one known to use, in modern days, nowadays common practices like operating undercover to gain information, use ballistic (he proved a gun could not have been used to kill a person by extracting the bullet from the corpse and comparing the calibers), identified a criminal by his footprints, etc. All things that are considered absolutely normal today, but that were absolutely new at that time. Please see also this website: Vidocq: Convict Turned Detective Magnifique

Q14: When was officially declared Israel as State?
A14: May 14th 1948

Those who answered completely: Kolovrat, fastspawn, KhaKhan, Janissary, Marcus Petrius
