But... that's what wuxia movies are like...

Did you want Hero to be a gritty, realistic portrayal of fighting in the Qin dynasty? If yes, then you saw the wrong movie. It is much like saying "Man, Starwars sucked! Who uses swords in the future!?"

Well, it sucked because the whole movie just wanted to say "one thing" and that "one thing" happens to be some propaganda.

Is the movie visually stunning?  Sure, some of it is.  But there are a lot of visually stunning crap out there.  Such as Titanic, Battle Field Earth, Twister, Armageddon...... the list goes on, with Hero being one in the list.  Face it, if it is SUCH a great movie, it wouldn't take it so long to come out in the US.

I thought that the movie did a good job w/ cinemetography and use of colors, although the repitition of the same story 5 times kind of bored me...

Hey Gubuk.

Allow me.  Some critics are saying that the movie is saying that it's best to leave the emperor alone, since he unified the land and brought an end to fighting (in actual fact there were many rebels, of course, but the point is that a unified is at least a first step towords peace,) he shouldn't be assassinated despite the fact he conquerered and controlled China with cruelty.  You see the implication?  (hint: Commie and such.)

Peace,

Michael

it may be commie propoganda but I agree with the principle, new and rising empires with vitality often usher in a way to a future, creul as they may be, to extend the fractures nature of civil war often is a worse option.

I don't see how that is more bad or less bad.  Just look at Europe, it didn't experience more or less hardship than China.

The fact is if something is wrong with the system, I don't care how peaceful it seemed with the use of a police state, it will break down.  Just like how Qin broke down.

yes but looking back on the past Qin is incredibly iportant, and the liguisitcstreamlining and standarization probably conttributed to later Chinese greatness.

I think it contributed to the Chinese failure.  The establishment of an earth bound nation, uninterested in exploration.
