Topic: Similarities in our history~ Posted: 29-Aug-2004 at 07:09 |
There were always something similar in history of different people.Did you find some similarities in your history with other's? If you did, just post it!
(1) Key Words: Seven (state / Kingdom)
China The Warring States Period was part of the Chinese Zhou Dynasty. It lasted from 403 BC to 221 BC. It was named after Record of the Warring States compiled in early Han Dynasty.
The Warring States Period followed the Spring and Autumn Period. In the Spring and Autumn Period, the warlords still considered themselves nobles of Zhou; but now the warlords called themselves kings, meaning they were equal to the Zhou king. The land was divided into many small kingdoms; though eventually seven states, known as the "Seven Great Powers" rose to prominence: Qi, Chu, Yan, Han, Zhao, Wei and Qin. The Qin conquered all and ushered in the Qin Dynasty. It was during this period that different philosophies developed into the Hundred Schools of Thought.
England In the late 5th century ,the Anglo-Saxons eventually formed seven separate kingdoms known as the heptarchy. The term Anglo-Saxons was first used in Continental Latin sources to distinguish the Saxons in England from those on the Continent, but it soon came to mean simply the English. The more specific use of the term to denote the non-Celtic settlers of England prior to the Norman Conquest dates from the 16th cent. In more modern times it has also been used to denote any of the people (or their descendants) of the British Isles.
(2) Key Words: Eight years/Civil War
China
The Civil War of China lasted for 4years(1945 - 1949)

Imjin war- War between primarly Korea and Japan. Later Ming intervened. 1592~98. So it was a main battle between all East asian powers.
A 7 years war.
7 years War= War between most of European powers-England, Spain, France, Sweden, Germanic states, etc. Lasted for "guess".

Estonian war of independence (Nov 28. 1918-Feb 20. 1920). We fought with the Soviet invasion with great help from the UK and support of other various allies. We were strongly supported by Finns. And as a similarity in history i would bring out the wars of independence of every other northern, eastern European country at that time and caucasian aswell.

"Sengoku" means "warring states" (Seng=war; goku=state, in Japanese)
The Warring States Period of China lasted from 403 BC to 221 BC.
The Warring States period of Japan lasted from 1467 to 1615.

Well in Sengoku japan there were no "states" per-say but feudal sub units of the Japanese empire controlled by about 7 major clans who's head was called daimyo (lord). Who each ruled a certain amount of provinces, but they wielded the power of kings by any standard. Japanese Emperor's hadden't wielded real political power since the 10th century CE. The rulling power of the emperor's was weilded first by a line of herditary prime ministers. Then the empire became a military dictatorship under the first shogunate in the early 11th century, the full from of shogun which escapes me at the moment is translated as Supreme Commander in charge of fighting barbarians. The in charge of fighting barbarins part comes from when one of the later ruling PM's sent an army to conquer the northern end of Honshu (the largest japanese island) which was full of neolithic japanese peoples who were outside of the emperor's domains. The curious thing about Japan is that the same Imperial dynasty has been ruling japan since the creation of the title of emperor in the 700 CE.
PS the term used to describe 16th century japan is Sengoku Jidai, the age of the country at war. A little more poetic than warring states yes.

In Japanese SANGOKU means "three kingdoms (of China)" while SENGOKU means "warring states (of Japan)".

I am pretty sure that there were 4 feuding families/clans in Japan, the
Hojo, the Taira, the Shimaru, and the Ashihaga (Minamato). Also, I think it
lasted from something like the middle of the 14th century, and ended in
the beginning of the 18th century.

you only got some of them...
There were ALOT of feuding families and also some families would be absorbed by others, soe would rise out of nowhere etc etc, it was very fluid from espeially the Onin war through 1615.
