I saw a mention of some person building a round or circular building or monument or castle or fort in Scotland, either near Ayreshire or near Glascow/Strath-Clyde or near Falkirk/Firth of Forth. I was researching something else at the time and didn't make a note of it and now i can not find the webpage article in my search history or in my browser history (esp as i can't remember what date i saw it, may have been weeks or month ago) and I am very annoyed. I have tried finding it in net/web searches but the problem is that i can't remember the exact right words (round or circular, building or monument or castle or fort or other), or right place (ayreshire or strathclyde or glascow or falkirk or firth of forth) or right date of the building/structure/formation (i think it was around about the Anglo-Saxon or Viking times, but not sure), or what the other thing i was researching at the time (might have been a Bamburgh/bambrough person, or a Robin Hood person, or the fountain of Edwin).

Does anyone know of any round or circular structures in Scotland in the area between and around Ayreshire, Glascow, and Firth of Forth (between post-Roman to pre-Modern times)? I don't think it is Stenhousemuir because i think that was Roman times? I not sure if it is the round castle in Bute as i didn't see anything that seemed familiar when i looked it up, though it might be. I don't think it is the Stirling "round table" formation. I saw mention of a castle de Bellver in search results of one search but not sure if it is the one either (though i haven't checked it out properly yet)?

Would the structure be a crannog? The problem is that dwellings would have been round normally until influenced by the vikings and their longhouses.
What a handsome figure of a dragon. No wonder I fall madly in love with the Alani Dragon now, the avatar, it's a gorgeous dragon picture.

Thanks Alani. I don't think it was a crannog, I think it was something built by someone between post-Roman and pre-Modern times,  but i will have to check. I wish i could remember or find the site. The Bute one is the only one that i have so far that i have very uncertainly thought/felt that it possibly may be the one. All suggestions appreciated and of interest though thanks. I think it might have  been English/Anglo-Saxon or Viking?? that went there and built it. (I wonder if it was a later site on the earlier Antonine wall as i have a vague possible memory that i may have previously seen some similar site at one end??)

edit post: I will probably never find it now as firefox has [Very angry swear words] deleted my last 1-2 months history after i was moving/copying files/folders in 'application data' folders from different hdds. I have had about enough of constantly loosing days/weeks/months/years work all ultimately because of digital problems all stemming from the windows & broadband (& computer) changes of the last 2 years and from the virus attack on a forum via pm last dec. Lesson & future advice: make sure you save a backup copy of browser places/history files before moving/copying anything.

Well it looks like this is probably the one we saw & lost, though i can't be totally sure it is the same one.

"In 1186 Roger de Scalebroc is recorded as having built a ring structured castle at Greenan west of Ayr which was then in Northern Galloway."

Here are some others we had found in searches, in a list of all we found to now:

Stenhousemuir.
~ Carausius built round house with polished stones

Stirling "Round Table".

"Grand Master Fabrizio Del Carretto (1513–21) built a round bastion to strengthen the land side of the fortress"?

"the round castle of Buitt [Bute?], called Rosay of the Auld"

round tower Abernethey.

Archbishop Dunbar built a round-towered gatehouse in 1544.

Cuthbert and some of his monks built a round cell.

Brochs (Mousa etc). crannogs?

Callanish "stonehenge".

round stone tower, Rosslyn chapel?

"built a round house with 8 radiating screens or divisions" (didn't get all the details)

"built a round  hut of" (didn't get all the details)

possibly something about a round church built at (?New) Temple south of Firth of Forth?

something about castle de Bellver (didn't get all the details)?

the ringed structured castle at Greenan mentioned at top of post.
