Sunday the high was 63, yesterday it was 58.  This am it was 18f and snowing.  And they wonder why everyone is sick.Tongue

I supplement our central heating with a free standing wood burner. By this time last year I'd used 1.5 cords wood.  To date I haven't used a full cord yet. Looks like that's about to change.

There is the release of dormant germs possible.. if the snow is deep and insulates and or the extreme cold does not kill them..if outdoors.

indoors is another bucket of shitze.

the cold itself causes no sickness. Or the heat. afaic. injury yes. Depends on a number of factors. People's sanitation habits-prevention etc. vectors etc. water and diet intake. immune system.

in the end my ole mestizo grannie (may she RIP), rain or shine, heat or bone numbing cold, from Jan 1 thru Dec 31st always aired her home. at least one hour a day; every window in the place was open. and there was no air c. and a oil heater which could fire pellets in a pinch. she did use fans tho.

we weren't sick when we visited her.

and ya ain't lived until ya was in her home when it was -25f w/c outside and snow blowing in the 'k' window over her sink.

no wonder I drank hehe.

Amen.

There have been quite a few records broken this winter.  Boston got 87 inches in 3 weeks.

New Jersey has had only 7 inches of snow this winter.  But it's been the coldest on record.

Today the air temp. is 16 with a real feel of 1f.  Forecast for tomm. is -24F. That's minus 24F.

The Rancocas River, which is about 300 yds behind my home, is completely frozen over.  I've lived here for 50 years, and it's never been like that.

The Coast Guard brought an Ice Breaker up the Delaware to break up the Ice Flows.  I don't recall that ever happening before.

In Philly broken water mains have been happening 2-3 a day.  The frost line is down past 4 ft.

I have to confess, I have an electric blanket.  My home does have a draft, but it is just a little due to aging, I've gotten smarter over the years.

This am it was 3F. Air temp. not wind chill. The ice breakers are still cruising the Delaware, and now the Hudson. Most of the heating fuel for NYC comes by barge down the Hudson.  It's frozen from Albany down to NYC.

For the last 10 days it's been summer, no spring. High 80's to 90F.Sunday reached 95 with a humidity at 70.

This am it was 47, predicted high for today is 56F. With rain. May was very dry, little rain. We made up for that yesterday.

May and June are usually and historically moderate. Extreme shifts with little moderation seems to be the new patterns.

Weird first, now weird and violent. We were lucky for a change. Dangerous cells that produced "straightline winds", hit the Southern portion of the state. It missed us by approx. 10 miles. 3 counties are under a state of emer.
Some wind gusts were clocked at 85-90 mph and 3 days after there are still close to 200,000 without power.

The prediction for tomm. is possibly much of the same.

Here, close to the most easterly point of Australia, it is winter.
Dishwater-dull grey skies, 100% over-cast/light drizzle & 16.5`C..
Be Modest In Thyself..
