Looks like an illustration of the phrase;
"When Adam delved and Eve span, who was then the gentleman?"

I guess the man on the right is Adam, digging. The lady on the left is Eve with the spindle. The two children are Cain and Abel, sons of Adam and Eve.

The panel is the work of Jacopo della Quercia, commissioned in 1425 for the Basilica of San Petronio. The artist produced a series of panels depicting stories from the Bible, including the events around Adam and Eve.
