I'm pretty sure, PakistanShield, that the definition I gave, as a peninsula precludes islands, something only you had added for whatever reason lost to me at present. As for theories about plate tectonics go, the colliding of plates is generally accepted I believe, although any half decent map of the region will make a pretty straight forward case of that region being one mass.

OK, I believe that it is about time a rudimentary poll should go ahead regarding the terms "Near East", "Middle East" or any other alternative, so unless admin wishes for this thread to continue I close this thread.
