Do we have here an expert on the historical development of the German nation and its national consciousness? I'd like some info on that...

Yes in part as a result of the thirty years war research I have done. but a broadbrush response would be insufficient. begin your research with an overview of 'romantic nationalism' coupled to any number of sources dealing with the historical devcelopement of Germanic speaking peoples. ancient and current. Ceaser for example on his treastie on the gauls deals with the subject as do many others in the classic venue....tacitus etc.

Then specifically seek out JG Fichte....."Reden an die deutsche Nation".
