This just underscores my feelings that some amazing folks live in my town.

Who is Gloria Banks-Morton? She is a delightful and gracious person who volunteers at the Seniors Center.  She herself is 86.
What makes her special is the fact that she is the daughter of the late Fred Banks, owner and Manager of the "Philadelphia Stars" Baseball Team of the former Negro National League.  Her husband, the late Sidney "Sy" Morton, played for the Stars, as well as the "Pittsburgh Crawfords", The "Chicago American Giants" and the "Newark Eagles" all of the Negro National League.

This lady is a walking history book of the old Negro Baseball teams. I only had a few minutes to talk to her after finding this out, but you can bet I'm going to be talking to her again.  As we spoke, she pulled a laminated copy of her husbands Rookie Baseball Card, out of her purse!  When I gave her an idea of what the card was probably worth, and that she shouldn't be hauling it around, she smiled and said, "that's okay, I have quite a few more at home".  HooBoy!!

Stay tuned,Big smile I have a feeling some previously unpublished photos will be coming our way.

BTW Sy Morton played on the same championship team as Satchel Paige, and 4 other Hall of Famers.
