At Guantanamo Bay, soccer is in the air again

The Pentagon has said it is restoring the glorious game to Gitmo with a new 28,000-square-foot “super-rec” space that includes a field surrounded by a gravel track with shaded areas in the corners. Detainees will reach the field by walking through covered walkways that the military is calling “habitat trails” — rather like the tunnel to the pitch at, say, Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, but without the crowds.

The cost of the project: $744,000.

Spend how much on what? Shocked

Wasn't the closing of Gutmo one of the pre-election promises Obama gave?Confused I don't remember any promises about making it more attractive to whoever is there.

I need a goddamn drink. What a PC mess my military is being forced to sink too.Thumbs Down

Thank you..... all you lib-lefty, American, Obammite, Islamist terrorist, loving appeasers. Thank you She bitch of Cicero.

Please God... may the secularists get all the bibles and the guns. Please God.. let the butcher abortionists prevail. Please God... let the eco-wacko freaks and climate warmers and their pet projects get the money and then go bankrupt.

Please God... continue the erosion of civil liberties and the destruction of my sacred constitution by the Alinsky socialists. Let us worship together at the alters of huge government and a debt that will increase inflation, destroy small business and add tens of millions to the roles of the social welfare state.

Please Lord.... ensure the continuation of the Black Liberationist theology and direct that the socialists, secularists and Reconquista agendas reign supreme

If I left any thing out Lord.... You know what to do.

Thank you for your time Lord.

And now I am going to warn myself for a partial troll. Self you are warned. Learn to bend knee and mouth the appropriate rhetoric.

Oh yes, it was, big time! It was such a dog-and-pony show of him signing a document, then handing out
the pens he used. It was a campaign promise he made and I would love to see him explain why it is
still open.  First the non-closing of Gitmo, now a soccer field for them to relax?  Seems life in prison is a
pretty sweet deal if you're sent to the right prison.

Actually life in US jails for what I've seen is a really sweet deal - one gets to do nothing, watch movies all day, gets free medical, good food,  library, and no worries. Moreover, one gets to accuse the COs if the happen not to oblige him/her in something. Why do one has to be scared of a jail then? They are having good time there, being with friends, etc, all their worries are gone, what kind of respect one can have to the law if going to jail is actually fun?

One of my specializations, as a part of my Master's in Education /in Bulgaria one can make more than one specialization/ was re-education, and I have Bulgarian prisons to compare - everyone works there, there are workshops in every prison, at least there was in my time; in this way the jails are self-supporting, and when one leaves it, he/she as some money to start a new life, if they so wish. In Germany they work too, and the jails make money to self-support themselves.

Honestly, why be an honest person and make a living with a sweat on one's brow if one can be a criminal, have fun and at worse he is put in jail where he is taken care of and have fun? Ordinary people who fight with life have far harder and unsupported life than say, criminals, generational welfare users etc people. But this is besides the point, so...
Have a good day, everyoneSmile! I'm off to work.

Dog and pony shows are an integral part of any election, and usually the only folks who notice or complain, are those who voted for the other guy's Dog and Pony show.

What bothers me is 750,000 for what amounts to nothing more than a cleared level dirt surface, which could be done by a few SeaBees with a couple tractors and a grading blade.

Oh, I don't know about that, I still expect people to do what they say they'll do, in all levels. I'd be ashamed of myself if I promised something in public and didn't do it after that.
I didn't vote for anyone on the last election because I wasn't a citizen then, but this year I'll have to, so I'm kinda...Confused

You are not a politician.  Pols. will say what they have to in order to get elected, regardless of party afiliation.  Shame is something most pols. are immune to.
I cut my teeth on Phila. Ward Politics.  I learned that even the good ones have the ability to look you dead in the eye, and lie his ass off.  I'm not able to do that, so consequently politics was ruled out early as a career choice.TongueWink

You don't coddle POW's and ya damn sure don't coddle terrorists. They want recreation... walk under guard.... the interior perimeter one at a time.... if they run/try escape.... one in the brain. Tho tis true the Seabee's would do the trick.

True. That's why, I suppose, all my marriages fail most miserablyLOL.
You know, in 1989, when the Bulgarian Communist rejime started shaking, I was out on the streets with my kid on my shoulders and carrying posters since the first demonstrations, and reading the political poems I was writing them in the meetings the grass-roots organizations of the SDS /which was at the time this first alternative of the Communist party/; part of the reasons of my first divorce was my political activity at the time, because I was involved in one particular demonstration that turned into a riot and was broken by the cops. This was my only politically charged period in my life, I even joined the so called Green Party... but the disappointments started coming fast in only 2-3 years later, when....this is a long story, but the bottom line is that the so-called opposition started doing the same they raved against.  So I spat on the ground and emigrated out. I suppose I was naive to expect something else somewhere else.
