It is more honorable to defend your homelands from an invasion sent by a Tyrant, than to invade your neighbor because you got suckered by said Tyrant.

So what has this got to do with the Civil War?

BTW- Things got boring at the other forum?

I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, a pro confederate city in a union majority state.    I would be  pro union and would support Maryland remaining in the union.  I would also not support the use of force against those states wishing to leave (as sesession was not illegal).

If forced to actively support one side or the other,  I would probably have supported the confederacy as I would not want to participate in an invasion / occupation of what were then considered to be sovereign states.

I bet Al Qaeda and the Viet Cong would agree with you.

Having typed that - I think it is very honorable to go into a war to save your country and democracy, which is exactly what the United States troops were doing in the 1860's.
