Imagine it's a typical day: you are relaxing at home when there is a knock at the door. An elderly man with a briefcase informs you that your eccentric great uncle (whom you have never met) has died at the age of 96 and left you his entire estate.

Uncle Rotwang, an eminent physicist, was rumored to have defected from Nazi Germany and worked on top-secret government projects in the 1960s. In his garage you discover a half-completed robot, a collection of Tesla coils, a Nixie clock and a souped-up Buick. Inside the glovebox is a letter from Uncle Rotwang explaining that the car is actually a time machine and you are entrusted to ensure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. By adjusting a nonstandard clock on the dashboard (showing the time, day and year) you can travel through time. Sceptical, you nevertheless decide to give it a try.

Where would you go and what would you do?

Well, there would be a million places I'd like to go. Probably going back to the age of the dinosaurs would be top in my list. Then I'd go to ancient Egypt to witness how the pyramids were built.

Many places and times Nick.

But I think I'd start with the Crucifixion of the Christ and then quote to the Centurion this...

''Over a half century ago, while I was still a child, I recall hearing a number of old people offer the following explanation for the great disasters that had befallen Russia: "Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened." Since then I have spent well-nigh 50 years working on the history of our revolution; in the process I have read hundreds of books, collected hundreds of personal testimonies, and have already contributed eight volumes of my own toward the effort of clearing away the rubble left by that upheaval. But if I were asked today to formulate as concisely as possible the main cause of the ruinous revolution that swallowed up some 60 million of our people, I could not put it more accurately than to repeat: "Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened."

A. Solzhenitsyn.

And then close the conversation with the Centurion by stating this: ''and nothing has changed.''

Thanks

I think I'd want to go back before the sea level rise.  Twenty million square miles under water, must have been alot we don't yet know about.

My first stop would be ancient Egypt where i'd spend the night with Cleopatra. After that i'd go to China to learn the martial arts from the old Buddhist monks and participate in a medieval joust. I'd spend a bit of time in Elizabethan England to pelt Shakespeare with rotten tomatos in revenge for all those useless school English classes and (finally) visit the Wild West and make my fortune by investing in the new oil wells. Then i'd go the modern age to see Freddie performing live, stopping on the way to acquire a striped boating blazer, blow up Hitler before he could invade Poland and save John Lennon from assassination

I would travel back to 535AD, find Belisarius and show him what is going to happen in a century...
then I will bring him with me in 636AD and look him beat Arabs to pulp at Yarmuk:)
