Hi all
 
Wow it's been ages since I was on here lol!
 
I need some help. I'm planning on doing my thesis on the archaeology of Concentrattion Camps and I'm having a hard time finding info on the subject. Obviously there is loads on the Camps historically but not archaeologically.
 
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good book/paper/article?

If you're looking for archaeology on WWII camps you are unlikely too find much as it's too recent for archaeology. You could try looking into older ones, there's been work done in Namibia and some in South Africa.

The archaeology on this is a bit problematic. Some of the original death camps still exist, but many of them were completely obliterated by retreating Nazi forces. Auschwitz, for instance. The inmates' wooden barracks are the originals (though they won't last much longer), but the rest of the complex is a replica built by the Polish government in the late 40s and early 50s. When the camp was originally liberated, there was nothing but rubble and ash.

a lot of archeological work has been done in the Ukraine mostly for what has been called the "Shoah by bullets"with mass graves such as the one of Babi Yar.

Not to mention that digs on the sites are very sensitive issues. As Edgewaers mentioned, Treblinka, Chelmo, Sobibor etc were completely razed. So were the many temporary camps / ghettos in Romania and the former USSR. 
 
Dachau and Mauthausen (sp) are probably largely intact. These two camps however, were not technically death camps, but forced labor camps.

Concentration Camps; the Brist were building them in Malaya and Kenya during the 60's. Concentration Camp only means a place where people are concentrated. It dose NOT mean a death camp.
