My new ASUS laptop with Windows Vista won't let me log onto my account after wrking just fie esterday, save for a politcal editoral site that frooze up on me.

I just says login failed whenI try to logon to my account at the startup screen.

Does anyone have any clue as to what the problem might possibly be?

What exact message do you get?

- If it is a user incorrect, or a similar issue, then something as a Cap lock on could have triggered it

- Otherwise try to run in Safe Mode

And report further, it can be solved, or worst case would be a restore, but even then you can keep data, or even do a "upgrade," where the Vista OS is reinstalled, but your Programs (3rd party), and your documents/files stay.

It is his log on screen Cool can't access that until he logs on. Safe mode is a good way to bypass errors though.

Kevin-

>Run it in safe mode (usually F8 or F9 when the "post" or BIOS screen starts before windows opens up and then change the password from the administrator control panel

If a screen comes up all the time when you load up doing a disk check to C:\ then that's probably the problem, but I'm not sure what Vista runs off in that respect. NTFS usually deals with these problems. If it's that, then there's some software or DOS commandlines that will do the trick

I think it is NTFS, most flash cards will do FAT32 - but again that is even a if lately.

My laptop is only used by me and my parents and the rest of my family are trustworthy so I fell no need for a passworded account.

However every time I click on my account t the opening windows screen it says
"user account service logon has failed" "can't logon user profile"

I hope that helps to provide clues for everybody?

I would test out the occurence, but I am currently using Windows 7 (Microsoft just recently released the public beta on their site), which in structure is similar to Vista, but not a 100%.

Try safe mode first since there is no password.

Now also, were you provided a Recover CD, or do you have a partition witin the HardDrive to recover from. Mine for example included that originally, before I booted a new OS on it.

It may be possible to fix through Safe Mode, or save data that you need and recover it. However, also it is possible to keep all of your data when recovering.
