--One of the several battles which collectively make up the Battle of Leyte Gulf is the Battle of Cape Engano at the northeast corner of the island of Luzon. It was fought between Admiral Halsey and the Fast Carrier Task Force after he was decoyed north by Admiral Ozawa and the almost planeless carriers of his Northern Force. Ozawa was there specifically TO draw Halsey north as part of Combined Fleet's War Plan Sho Go 1, in order for Admiral Kurita's Center Force to be able to pass through San Bernardino Strait so as to get at the American transport and supply ships supporting the invasion of Leyte.
--The name is incredibly ironic AND appropriate because engano is a Spanish word meaning deception or trick or lure.
