Which German beer is the best?

I must say Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse is one of the smoother beers I've ever had. It pretty much was the only beer I would drink during the few years I lived in Germany(Ansbach). That and fest beer but I'm not even sure what that is. Other then a dangerous brew for fast paced drinkers like myself. 

There are so many beers that taste great, so it's hard to say. Pils, Dunkel, Hefeweizen, Kristallweizen, Weißbier, Alt, Kölsch, Ur-Bock, Mai-Bock and so on and I didn't mention a company's name. If I have to choose just one I would prefer Salvator from Paulaner.

I never had one...you don't get many foreign branches over here. But I've heard someone say that German beers are plain average. Belgian are said to be great and Pilsner Urquell used to be, by some considered the best beer in the world, but today, I don't know it's not that great. But it's quite strong.

Difficult to say since German beers are best brewed locally and don't travel well. (No beer really travels well.)

A cold one.

the German beer tradition and those of the Czechs or Bohemians is liked very close. I think it's hard to say which nation is better. I think it depends what favorite taste you have.
