I like reading essays that are geared towards end of schoolers and college students. The journals on JSTOR are only accessible to members (I can use my colleges registration to use them) but they are written by historians for other historians, and are often extremely dull reads (I'm forced to read them for essays) What I like are essays which tackle a theme - ie, Franco-German relations since the Franco Prussian War to WWII which deals both with the bare events as well as the concepts behind the events in question. My question is whether there is an online database in the same mould as JSTOR but accessible to all, using the kind of essays I just described?

Hi,

I have a few links to free reviews on line. Unfortunately many of them are about economic history (which many find boring), are written by/for academics and are often in foreign languages but anyway here it is:

Lamp Anistoriton (a Greek review in English, it looks exactly like what you are looking for, a few scholar-ish articles but most of the essays are dealing with large issues like "was operation Barbarossa reasonable for 1941 Germany?")

Lamp altreitalie (mostly in Italian but a bit in English and French, about the Italian migrations and diasporas around the world, very interesting website too)

Lamp annali di storia di Firenze (in Italian, a wonderful resource for the history of the great city of Florence, very good website too)

Lamp annuario de la historia de Iglesia (in Spanish, about the history of the Church in Spain under varied approaches -mystical, sociological, political, etc.)

Lamp Boletn de la AFEHC (in Spanish, about the modern history of Central America)

Lamp Concilium medii aevi (in German and quite a bit of English, about the medieval history of the  German-speaking countries, good scholarly articles)

Lamp Croatica Christiana Periodica (in English and Croatian, about the religious history of Croatia)
Dubrovnik annals (in English with a bit of Croatian and Italian, about well the history of Dubrovnik)

Lamp e-JHP (in English, about Portuguese history, quite scholarly but a few essays of general interest)

Lamp e-Keltoy (in English, open-ended journal about whatever is Celtic, quite a few articles of general interest)

Lamp e-Spania (in French and a bit in Spanish, about medieval Spain)

Lamp Electronic Journal of Oriental Studies (in Turkish, German, English, etc., about the cultural history of the Middle East)

Lamp Estodios Interdisciplinarios de America Latina y el Caride (in Spanish, about the history and sociology of Latin America and the Caribbeans)

Lamp Eras (in English, a scholary journal published by an Australian university about world history with an emphasis on the Pacific area)

Lamp Fnix (in Portuguese, about world history and cultural studies)

Lamp FeRA (in German, about ancient history with a few articles of general interest)

Lamp GFA (in German, one of the web's best sources about ancient history)

Lamp GEFAME (in English, about African studies)

Lamp Globality Studies Journal (in English, about the world as a whole, pretentious post modern gibberish if you ask me)

Lamp Heroic Age (in English, about early Northwestern medieval Europe)

Lamp Historia (in Spanish, about Chilean history)

Lamp Historia Constitucional (in Spanish with a bit of Portuguese and English, about the history of the world's constitutions)

Lamp Historia Critica (in Spanish, mostly about South American history)
